Divination from chips: monitoring of the sawing process with chip geometry analyzes

Sawing frozen wood with narrow kerf saws: Energy and quality effects.

The fundamentals of narrow-kerf sawing; the mechanics and quality of cutting / K. A. Orłowski.
PublicationW pracy przedstawiono ekonomiczne i ekologiczne uwarunkowania dokładnego przecinania drewna za pomocą pił cienkich (o niewielkiej wartości rzazu). Opisano współczesne technologie wykorzystujące cienkie piły: pilarki tarczowe wielopiłowe, pilarki taśmowe i ramowe. W rozdziale drugim omówiono siły skrawania w ujęciu klasycznym, w którym do ich szacowania przyjmuje się przede wszystkim wartości właściwego powierzchniowego oporu skrawania,...

The prediction method of the shear angle in the cutting zone during wood sawing

Application of fracture mechanics for energetic effects predictions while wood sawing
PublicationIn the classical approach, energetic effects (cutting forces and cutting power) of wood sawing process are generally calculated on the basis of the specific cutting resistance, which is in the case of wood cutting the function of more or less important factors. On the other hand, cutting forces (power) could be considered from a point of view of modern fracture mechanics. Cutting forces may be employed to determine not only toughness...

Granulometric characterization of Arctic driftwood sawdust from frame sawing process
PublicationArctic driftwood can be used as an alternative source of wood as construction timber and furniture material, especially in Iceland and Greenland. The use of Arctic driftwood can help in the fight against climate change, by developing land reforestation processes and reducing the volume harvested wood from forests and sustainability of harvesting processes. On the other hand, cutting forces (or power - more interesting from energetic point of view) could be considered from a point of view of modern fracture mechanics. Cutting...

SAWING PROCESS AS A NEW ALTERNATIVE WAY OF DETERMINING SOME WOOD PROPERTIES
PublicationCutting forces (power) could be considered from a point of view of modern fracture mechanics. The developed cutting model, derived from fracture mechanics, includes work of separation (fracture toughness) in addition to plasticity and friction, and also dullness of the cutting edge described by the cutting edge radius. Moreover, forecasting of the shear plane angle for the cutting models, broaden possibilities of energetic effects...

Lateral forces determine dimensional accuracy of the narrow‑kerf sawing of wood
PublicationThe shrinking global forest area limits the supply of industrially usable raw resources. This, in combination with the ever‑increasing consumption of timber due to population growth can lead to the lack of a positive balance between the annual volumetric growth and consumption of wood. An important innovation toward increasing environmental and economic sustainability of timber production is to reduce the volume of wood residues...

PublicationThis paper presents an analysis of the fading characteristics in dynamic body-to-body channels, based on measurements performed at 2.45 GHz in indoor and outdoor environments. The statistical analysis of the small- and large-scale fading shows that the Nakagami Distribution is the best model for the former and the Log-Normal one for the latter. An important influence of body shadowing...

The Most Valuable Global Brands and Condition of Economies: a Spatial Approach
PublicationResearch background: Brands are considered to be the most valuable asset of a company. Some of them achieve spectacular global results. The significance of global brands is proved by the fact that their value is often greater than the sum of all company’s net assets. Purpose of the article: The aim of this article is to highlight that brand value does not only create company’s value but also leverages economies. We claim that even though...

Export diversification and economic development: A dynamic spatial data analysis
PublicationThis paper contributes to the empirical literature on the relationship between “export variety” (export diversification) and economic development by relaxing the assumption of cross-country independence and allowing for spatial diffusion of shocks in observed and unobserved factors. Export variety is measured for a balanced panel of 114 countries (1992–2012) using very detailed information on their exports (HS 6-digit product level)....

Spectral measurement of birefringence using particle swarm optimization analysis
PublicationThe measurement of birefringence is useful for the examination of both technical and biological objects. One of the main problems is that the polarization state of light in birefringent media changes periodically. Without the knowledge of the period number, the birefringence of a given medium cannot be determined reliably. We propose to analyse the spectrum of light in order to determine the birefringence. We use a Particle Swarm...

Correlated Particle Motion and THz Spectral Response of Supercritical Water
PublicationMolecular dynamics simulations of supercritical water reveal distinctly different distance-dependent modulations of dipolar response and correlations in particle motion compared to ambient conditions. The strongly perturbed H-bond network of water at supercritical conditions allows for considerable translationaland rotational freedom of individual molecules. These changes give rise to substantially different infrared spectra and...

Impact of Spatial Noise Correlation on Bearing Accuracy in DIFAR Systems
PublicationDIFAR type underwater passive systems are one of the more commonly used tools for detecting submarines. At the design stage, which usually uses computer simulations, it is necessary to generate acoustic noise of the sea. It has been shown that correlating noise significantly reduces these errors compared to the assumption that noise is uncorrelated. In addition, bearing errors have been shown to be the same in systems with a commonly...
