Die Harzproben aus dem Geiseltal wurden mittels Infrarotspektrometer untersucht. Der Vergleich der Spektren mit Referenzspektren zeigt, dass es sich bei den „historischen“ Harzproben um ein Harz vom Retinit- Typ, den oxidierten Krantzit (Oxikrantzit), handelt.
