Predicting Ice Phenomena in a River Using the Artificial Neural Network and Extreme Gradient Boosting
PublikacjaForecasting ice phenomena in river systems is of great importance because these phenomena are a fundamental part of the hydrological regime. Due to the stochasticity of ice phenomena, their prediction is a difficult process, especially when data sets are sparse or incomplete. In this study, two machine learning models—Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network (MLPNN) and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost)—were developed to predict...

Open Data Capability Architecture - An Interpretive Structural Modeling Approach
PublikacjaDespite of increasing availability of open data as a vital organizational resource, large numbers of startups and organizations fail when it comes to utilizing open data effectively. This shortcoming is attributable to the poor understanding of what types of capabilities are required to successfully conduct data related activities. At the same time, research on open data capabilities and how they relate to one another remains sparse....

Tuning matrix-vector multiplication on GPU
PublikacjaA matrix times vector multiplication (matvec) is a cornerstone operation in iterative methods of solving large sparse systems of equations such as the conjugate gradients method (cg), the minimal residual method (minres), the generalized residual method (gmres) and exerts an influence on overall performance of those methods. An implementation of matvec is particularly demanding when one executes computations on a GPU (Graphics...

Deflated Preconditioned Solvers for Parametrized Local Model Order Reduction
PublikacjaOne of steps in the design of microwave filters is numerical tuning using full-wave simulators. Typically, it is a time-consuming process as it uses advanced computational methods, e.g. the finite-element method (FEM) and it usually requires multiple optimization steps before the specification goals are met. FEM involves solving a large sparse system of equations at many frequency points and therefore its computational cost is...

Identification of nonstationary processes using noncausal bidirectional lattice filtering
PublikacjaThe problem of off-line identification of a nonstationary autoregressive process with a time-varying order and a time-varying degree of nonstationarity is considered and solved using the parallel estimation approach. The proposed parallel estimation scheme is made up of several bidirectional (noncausal) exponentially weighted lattice algorithms with different estimation memory and order settings. It is shown that optimization of...

On Bayesian Tracking and Prediction of Radar Cross Section
PublikacjaWe consider the problem of Bayesian tracking of radar cross section. The adopted observation model employs the gamma family, which covers all Swerling cases in a unified framework. State dynamics are modeled using a nonstationary autoregressive gamma process. The principal component of the proposed solution is a nontrivial gamma approximation, applied during the time update recursion. The superior performance of the proposed approach...

Compressive Sensing Approach to Harmonics Detection in the Ship Electrical Network
PublikacjaThe contribution of this paper is to show the opportunities for using the compressive sensing (CS) technique for detecting harmonics in a frequency sparse signal. The signal in a ship’s electrical network, polluted by harmonic distortions, can be modeled as a superposition of a small number of sinusoids and the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) basis forms its sparse domain. According to the theory of CS, a signal may be reconstructed...

Accelerated Gradient-Based Optimization of Antenna Structures Using Multi-Fidelity Simulations and Convergence-Based Model Management Scheme
PublikacjaThe importance of numerical optimization has been steadily growing in the design of contemporary antenna structures. The primary reason is the increasing complexity of antenna topologies, [ a typically large number of adjustable parameters that have to be simultaneously tuned. Design closure is no longer possible using traditional methods, including theoretical models or supervised parameter sweeping. To ensure reliability, optimization...

CRVG - a new model for wireless networks topology generation
PublikacjaThis paper presents a new model of wireless network topology generator. Its main advantage is the possibility of relatively sparse networks generation. Because no iteration is needed, the model can be used for massive generation of networks for testing. The topological properties of produced graphs place them in the class of scale free networks, resembling real ones.

STILL ‘FEW, SLOW AND LOW’? ON THE FEMALE DIMENSION OF TECHNOLOGY, LABOUR MARKETS AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITY: EVIDENCE FOR THE PERIOD OF 1990-2017
PublikacjaThe known in empirical economics question ‘Why so Few? Why so Slow? Why so Low?’ refers here to the persistently small number of women involved in innovative activities, the slowness of change in the inequalities between women and men in these fields, and women’s continuing lower rank in business and academic positions. In developing countries, women`s labour and entrepreneurial activity remains an ‘untapped resource’ for economic...

New results on estimation bandwidth adaptation
PublikacjaThe problem of identification of a nonstationary autoregressive signal using non-causal estimation schemes is considered. Noncausal estimators can be used in applications that are not time-critical, i.e., do not require real-time processing. A new adaptive estimation bandwidth selection rule based on evaluation of pseudoprediction errors is proposed, allowing one to adjust tracking characteristics of noncausal estimators to unknown...

A space-efficient algorithm for computing the minimum cycle mean in a directed graph
PublikacjaAn algorithm is introduced for computing the minimum cycle mean in a strongly connected directed graph with n vertices and m arcs that requires O(n) working space. This is a considerable improvement for sparse graphs in comparison to the classical algorithms that require O(n^2) working space. The time complexity of the algorithm is still O(nm). An implementation in C++ is made publicly available at http://www.pawelpilarczyk.com/cymealg/.

On adaptive selection of estimation bandwidth for analysis of locally stationary multivariate processes
PublikacjaWhen estimating the correlation/spectral structure of a locally stationary process, one should choose the so-called estimation bandwidth, related to the effective width of the local analysis window. The choice should comply with the degree of signal nonstationarity. Too small bandwidth may result in an excessive estimation bias, while too large bandwidth may cause excessive estimation variance. The paper presents a novel method...

This paper shows that in wideband communications, the time- and frequency-domain...
