Speciation of heavy metals in bottom sediments of drinking water reservoir for Gdansk, Poland – changes over the 14 years
PublikacjaThere was conducted a comparative study of the concentrations of heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Pb, and Cd) in the surface layer of sediments collected in two investigation periods: 1999–2000 and 2013. Theresults demonstrated that the degree of metals pollution decreased over time. The contamina-tion factors (Cf) calculated for Zn, Cu, Pb, and Cd were respectively 3.63, 3.86, 3.23, and 3.25 in the first period of research and 1.35, 3.42,...

A study of the photoelectron spectra of α-tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol over the outer valence energy region (9–25 eV)
PublikacjaPhotoelectron spectra of α-tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) molecules, the threshold spectrum and spectra for constant photoelectron energies, have been measured over the photon energy range 9–25 eV. Analysis of the photoelectron spectra has allowed overlapping photoionization bands to be separated, tentatively assigned and their vertical photoionization energies to be determined. These energies are compared with existing theoretical...

The (over)touristification of European historic cities: a relation between urban heritage and short-term rental market demand
PublikacjaIn this chapter, I wish to highlight the critical relationship between heritage management issues and building environment transformation. I argue that such a relationship is directly expressed through the tourism phenomenon, and it should be measured through the economic dimension of the short-term rental market, which introduces this rule of thumb: if there is a lack of demand, the brand of the city is weak; if there is too much...

Certified domination
PublikacjaImagine that we are given a set D of officials and a set W of civils. For each civil x ∈ W, there must be an official v ∈ D that can serve x, and whenever any such v is serving x, there must also be another civil w ∈ W that observes v, that is, w may act as a kind of witness, to avoid any abuse from v. What is the minimum number of officials to guarantee such a service, assuming a given social network? In this paper, we introduce...
