Falling accident risk in Poland.
PublikacjaFor the last few years we observe optimistic tendencies in traffic risk development in Poland the number of fatalities decreases about 10% per year, bringing Poland closer to European Union standards. Nevertheless in 2001 we observed the unexpected, and bigger than forecasted, casualty reduction. The reason was the economic downturn suffered across the country, resulting in reduced demand for transportation. The danger lies in...

Modelling and simulation of GPU processing in the MERPSYS environment
PublikacjaIn this work, we evaluate an analytical GPU performance model based on Little's law, that expresses the kernel execution time in terms of latency bound, throughput bound, and achieved occupancy. We then combine it with the results of several research papers, introduce equations for data transfer time estimation, and finally incorporate it into the MERPSYS framework, which is a general-purpose simulator for parallel and distributed...

Reliable Microwave Modeling By Means of Variable-Fidelity Response Features
PublikacjaIn this work, methodologies for low-cost and reliable microwave modeling are presented using variable-fidelity response features. The two key components of our approach are: (i) a realization of the modeling process at the level of suitably selected feature points of the responses (e.g., S-parameters vs. frequency) of the structure at hand, and (ii) the exploitation of variable-fidelity EM simulation data, also for the response...

Rapid Yield Estimation and Optimization of Microwave Structures Exploiting Feature-Based Statistical Analysis
PublikacjaIn this paper, we propose a simple, yet reliable methodology to expediteyield estimation and optimization of microwave structures. In our approach, the analysis of the entire response of the structure at hand (e.g., $S$-parameters asa function of frequency) is replaced by response surface modeling of suitablyselected feature points. On the one hand, this is sufficient to determinewhether a design satisfies given performance specifications....

Rapid dimension scaling of compact microwave couplers with power split correction
PublikacjaIn this paper, a technique for rapid re-design ofcompact microwave couplers with respect to operating frequency is discussed. Our methodology involves an inverse surrogate model setup using several reference designs optimized (at the level of equivalent circuit representation of the coupler) for a set of operating frequencies within a range of interest. The surrogate establishes the relationship between the operating frequency...

Impact of trajectory simplification methods on modeling carbon dioxide emissions from ships
PublikacjaModels of ship fuel consumption and emissions play an essential role in estimating global shipping’s greenhouse gas emissions. They are also widely used for verification of reported CO2 emissions for systems like EU MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) or IMO DCS (Data Collection System). Such models achieve high accuracy using historical spatiotemporal information about each ship from AIS data. However, this approach requires substantial...

Organotin Compounds: Environmental Fate and Analytics
PublikacjaFor more than 50 years, organotin compounds have been used in almost all sectors of industry. As a consequence, specific environmental compartments are affected by the emission of these xenobiotics. The emissions of organotin compounds into the environment from paints used in the shipbuilding industry for ship hull coating, and from the plant protection products are particularly significant. In 2001, the IMO introduced a global...

Earthquake-Induced Pounding of Medium-to-High-Rise Base-Isolated Buildings
PublikacjaDuring earthquakes, out-of-phase vibrations in adjacent buildings with limited distance may cause pounding between them. In recent years, the use of seismic isolation has expanded considerably as an effective approach to reduce seismic damage. However, the isolated building experiences large displacements during earthquakes, and there is a possibility of collisions with adjacent structures. The research on earthquake-induced pounding...

PublikacjaA good compromise between size and electrical performance is an important design consideration for compact microwave structures. Comprehensive information about size/performance trade-offs can be obtained through multi-objective optimization. Due to considerable electromagnetic (EM) cross-couplings in highly compressed layouts, the design process has to be conducted at the level of high-fidelity EM analysis which is computationally...

Rapid Design Tuning of Miniaturized Rat-Race Couplers Using Regression-Based Equivalent Network Surrogates
PublikacjaA simple technique for fast design tuning of compact rat-race couplers is presented. Our approach involves equivalent circuit representation, corrected by nonlinear functions of frequency with coefficients extracted through nonlinear regression. At the same time, the tuning process connects two levels of coupler representation: EM simulation of the entire circuit and re-optimization of the coupler building blocks (slow-wave cells...

We estimate all of these distributions in the time-frequency domain using both finite and infinite impulse response (FIR and IIR) narrow band filers for speech analysis. Then, we present...

Hostility bias or sadness bias in excluded individuals: Does anodal transcranial direct current stimulation of right VLPFC vs. left DLPFC have a mitigating effect?
PublikacjaExclusion has multiple adverse effects on individual’s well-being. It induces anger and hostile cognitions leading to aggressive behavior. The purpose of this study was to test whether exclusion would affect recognition of anger on ambivalent faces of the excluders. We hypothesized that exclusion would elicit more anger encoding (hostility bias) than inclusion, but this effect would be mitigated by anodal tDCS of right VLPFC...
