  • Full scattering profile of circular optical phantoms mimicking biological tissue
    Publication

    - Year 2017

Human tissue is one of the most complex optical media since it is turbid and nonhomogeneous. In our poster, we suggest a new type of skin phantom and an optical method for sensing physiological tissue condition, basing on the collection of the ejected light at all exit angles, to receive the full scattering profile. Conducted experiments were carried out on an unique set-up for noninvasive encircled measurement. Set-up consisted...

  • Haemocompatibility of Modified Nanodiamonds
    Publication

    - Materials - Year 2017

This study reports the interactions of modified nanodiamond particles in vitro with human blood. Modifications performed on the nanodiamond particles include oxygenation with a chemical method and hydrogenation upon chemical vapor deposition (CVD) plasma treatment. Such nanodiamonds were later incubated in whole human blood for different time intervals, ranging from 5 min to 5 h. The morphology of red blood cells was assessed along...

  • Low-Coherence Interferometric Fiber-Optic Sensors with Potential Applications as Biosensors
    Publication

    - SENSORS - Year 2017

Fiber-optic Fabry-Pérot interferometers (FPI) can be applied as optical sensors, and excellent measurement sensitivity can be obtained by fine-tuning the interferometer design. In this work, we evaluate the ability of selected dielectric thin films to optimize the reflectivity of the Fabry-Pérot cavity. The spectral reflectance and transmittance of dielectric films made of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) with...

  • Low-coherence sensors with nanolayers for biomedical sensing

In this paper, we describe the fiber optic low-coherence sensors using thin film. We investigated their metrological parameters. Presented sensors were made with the use of standard telecommunication single mode optical fiber (SMF28). Different materials were applied to obtain thick layers, such as boron doped diamond, silver and gold. The thickness of layers used in the experiments ranged from 100 nm to 300 nm. Measurements were...

  • Prototype of an opto-capacitive probe for non-invasive sensing cerebrospinal fluid circulation
    Publication

    - Year 2017

In brain studies, the function of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) awakes growing interest, particularly related to studies of the glymphatic system in the brain, which is connected with the complex system of lymphatic vessels responsible for cleaning the tissues. The CSF is a clear, colourless liquid including water (H2O) approximately with a concentration of 99 %. In addition, it contains electrolytes, amino acids, glucose, and...

  • Tailoring the optical parameters of optical fiber interferometer with dedicated boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond thin film

Optical fiber interferometer using nanocrystalline boron-doped diamond film was investigated. The diamond films were deposited on glass plates using a Microwave Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition (μPE CVD) sys-tem. The growth time was 3h, with boron doping level of 10 000 ppm producing films (B-NCD-10) of thickness ~ 200 nm. The presence of boron atoms in the diamond film is evident in Raman spectrum as peaks at 1212 cm-1...

  • The silver layers in fiber-optic sensors
    Publication

    - Year 2017

In this paper a method of application of the silver layers on the surface of an optical fiber was proposed. The optical properties and surface quality of the silver layer was examined by optical microscopy. The reflection and transmission of the sample were investigated. To evaluate the silver mirror it was placed in a fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometer and the quality of the spectra was analyzed. The commercial mirror was...
