Optimal segmented dampers configuration for a laminar body carrying variable payload
Ponieważ różne aspekty komfortu prowadzą do przeciwnych wytycznych odnośnie wyboru własności tłumiących, rozwiązanie dobory parametrów tłumienia...

Performance analysis of standard and modified EY-NPMA channel access algo-rithms

Comparison of Doppler Effect Estimation Methods for MFSK Transmission in Multipath Hydroacoustic Channel
PublicationUnderwater wireless communication remains a challenging topic, particularly for applications such as wreck penetration where multipath and Doppler effects are very intense. These effects are becoming even more difficult to mitigate for fast data transmission systems that utilize wideband signals. Due to the low propagation speed of acoustic wave in the water, there is a significant difference between the Doppler shift for lower...

Adaptive Identification of Underwater Acoustic Channel with a Mix of Static and Time-Varying Parameters
PublicationWe consider the problem of identification of communication channels with a mix of static and time-varying parameters. Such scenarios are typical, among others, in underwater acoustics. In this paper, we further develop adaptive algorithms built on the local basis function (LBF) principle resulting in excellent performance when identifying time-varying systems. The main drawback of an LBF algorithm is its high complexity. The subsequently...

System identification theory-based estimation of underwater acoustic channel for broadband communications.

High frequency oscillations are associated with cognitive processing in human recognition memory
PublicationHigh frequency oscillations are associated with normal brain function, but also increasingly recognized as potential biomarkers of the epileptogenic brain. Their role in human cognition has been predominantly studied in classical gamma frequencies (30-100 Hz), which reflect neuronal network coordination involved in attention, learning and memory. Invasive brain recordings in animals and humans demonstrate that physiological oscillations...

New sample preparation strategies for comprehensive lipidomics of human breast milk
PublicationGLOBAL PROFILING ANALYSIS OF HUMAN BREAST MILK (HBM) LIPIDS IS HINDERED BY COMPLEX COMPOSITION OF HBM. THIS PROBLEM IS HUGE FROM ANALYTICAL POINT OF VIEW, SINCE DUE TO THAT DETECTION OF ALL HBM LIPIDS DURING ONE ANALYTICAL RUN IS LIMITED. THUS, SAMPLE PREPARATION STEP CONSTITUTES A CRUCIAL STEP IN UNTARGETED LIPIDOMIC ANALYSIS OF HBM, ESPECIALLY WHEN SEMI-QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS IS ASSUMED. HEREIN, WE PRESENT A COMPARISON OF PUBLISHED...

In vivo imaging of the human eye using a two-photon excited fluorescence scanning laser ophthalmoscope
PublicationBACKGROUND. Noninvasive assessment of metabolic processes that sustain regeneration of human retinal visual pigments (visual cycle) is essential to improve ophthalmic diagnostics and to accelerate development of new treatments to counter retinal diseases. Fluorescent vitamin A derivatives, which are the chemical intermediates of these processes, are highly sensitive to UV light; thus, safe analyses of these processes in humans...

A novel in vivo approach to assess strains of the human abdominal wall under known intraabdominal pressure
PublicationThe study concerns mechanical behaviour of a living human abdominal wall. A better mechanical understanding of a human abdominal wall and recognition of its material properties is required to find mechanically compatible surgical meshes to significantly improve the treatment of ventral hernias. A non-invasive methodology, based on in vivo optical measurements is proposed to determine strains of abdominal wall corresponding to...

Influence of accelerometer signal pre-processing and classification method on human activity recognition
PublicationA study of data pre-processing influence on accelerometer-based human activity recognition algorithms is presented. The frequency band used to filter-out the accelerometer signals and the number of accelerometers involved were considered in terms of their influence on the recognition accuracy. In the test four methods of classification were used: support vector machine, decision trees, neural network, k-nearest neighbor.

High frequency oscillations in human memory and cognition: a neurophysiological substrate of engrams?
PublicationDespite advances in understanding the cellular and molecular processes underlying memory and cognition, and recent successful modulation of cognitive performance in brain disorders, the neurophysiological mechanisms remain underexplored. High frequency oscillations beyond the classic electroencephalogram spectrum have emerged as a potential neural correlate of fundamental cognitive processes. High frequency oscillations are detected...

Histogram of Oriented Gradients with Cell Average Brightness for Human Detection
PublicationA modification of the descriptor in a human detector using Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) is presented. The proposed modification requires inserting the values of average cell brightness resulting in the increase of the descriptor length from 3780 to 3908 values, but it is easy to compute and instantly gives ≈ 25% improvement of the miss rate at 10‒4 False Positives Per Window (FPPW). The...

Independent dynamics of slow, intermediate, and fast intracranial EEG spectral activities during human memory formation
PublicationA wide spectrum of brain rhythms are engaged throughout the human cortex in cognitive functions. How the rhythms of various low and high frequencies are spatiotemporally coordinated across the human brain during memory processing is inconclusive. They can either be coordinated together across a wide range of the frequency spectrum or induced in specific bands. We used a large dataset of human intracranial electroencephalography...
