Firing map for periodically and almost-periodically driven integrate-and-fire models: a dynamical systems approach
PublicationWe consider the Leaky Integrate-and-Fire and Perfect Integrator models of neuron’s dynamics with the input function being periodic and almost-periodic (in the sense of Stepanov). In particular we analyze properties and dynamics of the so-called firing map, which iterations give timings of consecutive spikes of a neuron. In case of a periodic input function we provide a detailed description of the sequence of interspike-intervals,...

We perform functional characteristics of the workloads executed in our cloud environment, that have been used to create model of the computations. To categorize the resources utilization we used K-means algorithm, that allow us automatically select six types of computations. We perform analysis of the discovered types against to typical computational benchmarks,...

Pedestrian detection is a crucial perception com- ponent in autonomous driving and here we study its performance under different image corruptions. Furthermore, we provide analysis of classifi- cation calibration of pedestrian detectors and we show a positive effect of using style-transfer augmentation technique. Our analysis is aimed as a step...

Nonstandard Equivalence Scales and their Applications for European Union Countries
PublicationThe aim of this study is twofold. First, we propose new methods of estimating equivalence scales. We call these methods nonstandard to distinguish them from the standard procedures based on the microeconomic theory of demand systems. Searching for the ‘as simple as possible’ method has been a leitmotiv of this study. Second, we estimate various forms of equivalence scales for 28 European Union (EU) member countries and four non-member...

Workers, Firms and Task Heterogeneity in International Trade Analysis: An Example of Wage Effects of Trade Within GVC.
PublicationObjective: The main aim of this article is to present how the heterogeneity of workers, firms, and tasks can be incorporated into empirical international trade analysis. In particular, we provide an empirical example in which we aim to quantify the reliance on foreign value added (FVA) within Global Value Chains (GVC) on wages. Research Design & Methods: We estimate a Mincerian wage model augmented with a measure of foreign value...

Towards Resource Theory of Coherence in Distributed Scenarios
PublicationThe search for a simple description of fundamental physical processes is an important part of quantum theory. One example for such an abstraction can be found in the distance lab paradigm: if two separated parties are connected via a classical channel, it is notoriously difficult to characterize all possible operations these parties can perform. This class of operations is widely known as local operations and classical communication....

A Survey of Vehicular Network Systems for Road Traffic Management
PublicationIn this survey, we analyze the proposals of vehicular communication systems in the context of road traffic management. Starting with the definition of communications between vehicles (V2V), vehicles-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicles-to-everything (V2X), we first focus on the requirements and current standards for the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), including the maximum communication delay, the communication range and the...

Place Attachment and Collective Action Tendency
PublicationThree studies were carried out to examine how place attachment and collective action tendency are related and what role self-expansion and social interactions play in this relationship. In the first study (N = 156) we found that a more active form of attachment – place discovered – is a significant predictor of tendency to engage in collective action in favor of one’s neighborhood. In the second study (N = 197), we focused on...

The computational complexity of the backbone coloring problem for bounded-degree graphs with connected backbones
PublicationGiven a graph G, a spanning subgraph H of G and an integer λ>=2, a λ-backbone coloring of G with backbone H is a vertex coloring of G using colors 1, 2, ..., in which the color difference between vertices adjacent in H is greater than or equal to lambda. The backbone coloring problem is to find such a coloring with maximum color that does not exceed a given limit k. In this paper, we study the backbone coloring problem for bounded-degree...

On Computational Aspects of Greedy Partitioning of Graphs
PublicationIn this paper we consider a problem of graph P-coloring consisting in partitioning the vertex set of a graph such that each of the resulting sets induces a graph in a given additive, hereditary class of graphs P. We focus on partitions generated by the greedy algorithm. In particular, we show that given a graph G and an integer k deciding if the greedy algorithm outputs a P-coloring with a least k colors is NP-complete for an infinite...

Towards Use of OntoClean for Ontology Contextualization
PublicationOntologies are formal systems of concepts used to describe numerous domains of interest. Ontologies are usually very expressive, but it comes at a price of computationally expensive reasoning over them. In our previous work we discussed the possible performance benefits that can be obtained by decomposing an ontology into contexts. While the benefits are appealing, we discovered that, in our case, the main obstacle against using...

We investigate various sizes of input and output switches and discuss some routing problems involved in blocking states. To express our results in a formal way we introduce a model of hypergraph edge-coloring. A new class of bipartite hypergraphs corresponding to Clos networks is studied. We identify some polynomially...

Discrete-time estimation of nonlinear continuous-time stochastic systems
PublicationIn this paper we consider the problem of state estimation of a dynamic system whose evolution is described by a nonlinear continuous-time stochastic model. We also assume that the system is observed by a sensor in discrete-time moments. To perform state estimation using uncertain discrete-time data, the system model needs to be discretized. We compare two methods of discretization. The first method uses the classical forward Euler...

On the interspike-intervals of periodically-driven integrate-and-fire models
PublicationWe analyze properties of the firing map, which iterations give information about consecutive spikes, for periodically driven linear integrate-and-fire models. By considering locally integrable (thus in general not continuous) input functions, we generalize some results of other authors. In particular, we prove theorems concerning continuous dependence of the firing map on the input in suitable function spaces. Using mathematical...

Weak forms of shadowing in topological dynamics
PublicationWe consider continuous maps of compact metric spaces. It is proved that every pseudotrajectory with sufficiently small errors contains a subsequence of positive density that is point-wise close to a subsequence of an exact trajectory with the same indices. Also, we study homeomor- phisms such that any pseudotrajectory can be shadowed by a finite number of exact orbits. In terms of numerical methods this property (we call it multishadowing)...

Broadcast copies reveal the quantumness of correlations
PublicationWe study the quantumness of bipartite correlations by proposing a quantity that combines a measure of total correlations-mutual information-with the notion of broadcast copies-i.e., generally nonfactorized copies-of bipartite states. By analyzing how our quantity increases with the number of broadcast copies, we are able to classify classical, separable, and entangled states. This motivates the definition of the broadcast regularization...

Equitable coloring of corona products of graphs
PublicationIn this paper we consider an equitable coloring of some corona products of graphs G and H in symbols, G o H). In particular, we show that deciding the colorability of G o H is NP-complete even if G is 4-regular and H is K_2. Next, we prove exact values or upper bounds on the equitable chromatic number of G o H, where G is an equitably 3- or 4-colorable graph and H is an r-partite graph, a path, a cycle or a complete graph.

We study their properties and get some lower and upper bounds, exact values for complete multipartite graphs and optimal, often polynomial-time strategies for both players provided that the game is played on a graph with an odd number of vertices. At the end we show that both games, the new and the classic...
