THE RESEARCH ON EGNOS SYSTEM IN CONTEXT OF THE ABILITY TO DETERMINE THE SHIP’S HULL SPATIAL ORIENTATION
PublicationThe European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) thanks to geostationary satellites covers an area of whole Europe, including Baltic and North Sea. It allows to fix the coordinates of object position with typical absolute accuracy of 1,5 m. Previous research have shown that relative accuracy is usually higher than absolute one [Nowak A., 2010, Nowak A., 2011], so probably it could be possible to use EGNOS to determine...

Particle Shape Effect on Macroscopic Behaviour of Underground Structures: Numerical and Experimental Study
PublicationAbstract: The mechanical performance of underground flexible structures such as buried pipes or culverts made of plastics depend not only on the properties of the structure, but also on the material surrounding it. Flexible drains can deflect by 30% with the joints staying tight, or even invert. Large deformations of the structure are difficult to model in the framework of Finite Element Method, but straightforward in Discrete...

Assessing historical church tower asymmetry using point cloud spatial expansion
PublicationChurch towers are key cultural heritage. In theory, towers are vertical, while facade elements are symmetrically positioned around the tower axis. However, during service of a structure, building and lifetime conditions cause deviations, with associated risks. Laser scanning point clouds can be used to assess the structural state but a universal approach was missing. The proposed algorithm first estimates the tower inclination,...
