Using Wearable Electronics to Estimate Usefulness of Heart Rate Variability for Bathing Person Identif Cation
PublicationIn this paper the possibility of person identification based on biosignal is investigated. The work focus on the analysis of the changes in intervals between successive R-waves of electrocardiogram (ECG) recorded by wearable electronics in form of a necklaces. The main idea behind this project is to find efficient tool which may prevent sudden consciousness loss episodes or even sudden death episodes related to rapid temperature...

Non-Destructive Assessment of Masonry Pillars using Ultrasonic Tomography
PublicationIn this paper, a condition assessment of masonry pillars is presented. Non-destructive tests were performed on an intact pillar as well as three pillars with internal inclusions in the form of a hole, a steel bar grouted by gypsum mortar, and a steel bar grouted by cement mortar. The inspection utilized ultrasonic stress waves and the reconstruction of the velocity distribution was performed by means of computed tomography. The...

Characterizing the Scalability of Graph Convolutional Networks on Intel® PIUMA
PublicationLarge-scale Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) inference on traditional CPU/GPU systems is challenging due to a large memory footprint, sparse computational patterns, and irregular memory accesses with poor locality. Intel’s Programmable Integrated Unffied Memory Architecture (PIUMA) is designed to address these challenges for graph analytics. In this paper, a detailed characterization of GCNs is presented using the Open-Graph Benchmark...

Building modernization located in the conservation protection zone in the aspect of technical conditions
PublicationThe paper presents a description of the technical condition of the building after many years of operation and analyzes the impact of the current use and the lack of regular periodic repairs on the technical efficiency of the building. The influence of the technical solutions applied during the construction of the building on the current limitations related to the planned, target change in the way of use was discussed. Variant conceptual...

The Palais–Smale condition for the Hamiltonian action on a mixed regularity space of loops in cotangent bundles and applications
PublicationWe show that the Hamiltonian action satisfies the Palais-Smale condition over a “mixed regular- ity” space of loops in cotangent bundles, namely the space of loops with regularity H^s, s ∈ (1/2, 1), in the baseand H^{1−s} in the fiber direction. As an application, we give a simplified proof of a theorem of Hofer-Viterbo on the existence of closed characteristic leaves for certain contact type hypersufaces in cotangent bundles.

Action-reaction based synthesis of acoustic wavefield equations
PublicationThe analysis of acoustic fields is usually based on the well-known mathematics of second order partial differential equations called wave equations. The author explores the duality and symmetry of linear fluid mechanics and develops two distinct equations of acoustics on the basis of a causal approach to local small-scale phenomena. Wavefields that are solutions of these equations have different composition, the spherical pressure...

Automatic Analysis System of TV Commercial Emission Level
PublicationThe purpose of the study was to determine whether the commercial emission level is higher than the emission level of a regular program and to check if the commercials broadcasters follow the recommended levels of loudness. The paper shortly reviews some chosen methods of volume measurements specified in the ITU and EBU recommendations. Then, it describes a prototype of a system implemented in Embarcadero C++ Builder 2010 which...

Superconductivity in a breathing kagome metals ROs2 (R = Sc, Y, Lu)
PublicationWe have successfully synthesized three osmium-based hexagonal Laves compounds ROs2 (R = Sc, Y, Lu), and discussed their physical properties. LeBail refinement of pXRD data confirms that all compounds crystallize in the hexagonal centrosymmetric MgZn2- type structure (P63/mmc, No. 194). The refined lattice parameters are a = b = 5.1791(1) Å and c = 8.4841(2) Å for ScOs2, a = b = 5.2571(3) Å and c = 8.6613(2) Å for LuOs2 and a =...

Detection of damages in a rivetted plate
PublicationThe paper presents the results of damage detection in a riveted aluminium plate. The detection method has been based on Lamb wave propagation. The plate has been analysed numerically and experimentally. Numerical calculations have been carried out by the use of the time-domain spectral finite element method, while for the experimental analysis laser scanning Doppler vibrometry (LSDV) has been utilised. The panel has been excited...

237Np Mössbauer effect study on NpFeAsO
PublicationWe report 237Np Mössbauer measurements on NpFeAsO. The Np atoms were found to occupy only one crystallographic site. The value of the isomer shift (δ ∼ 9.1 mm s−1 versus NpAl2) indicates a 5f4 electronic configuration (Np3+ ions). The magnetic ordering of the Np sublattice below 60 K is established and the saturated ordered magnetic moment is determined to be 1.73μB at 3.6 K. The unique set of hyperfine parameters exclude a modulated...

Do new EU members have any chance of earning as much as Westerns do?
PublicationThis article examines the wage dispersion in the European Union in the last ten years (1996-2006). The research is motivated by the fact that New Members States (NMS) expected that wage convergence would occurred after their accession to the EU. At the same time Old Member States (OMS) have been increasingly concerned with the possibility that the EU enlargement could influence their local labor markets and wages through new channels...

Human awareness versus Autonomous Vehicles view: comparison of reaction times during emergencies
PublicationHuman safety is one of the most critical factors when a new technology is introduced to the everyday use. It was no different in the case of Autonomous Vehicles (AV), designed to replace generally available Conventional Vehicles (CV) in the future. AV rules, from the start, focus on guaranteeing safety for passengers and other road users, and these assumptions usually work during normal traffic conditions. However, there is still...

Also, it evaluates the pull-off adhesion strength of the same coating materials applied to concrete slabs saturated with oil and water and dried with two different processes: air-dried for 28 days and air-dried for 14 days plus 14 days in the oven at 70 °C. Properties such as carbonation,...

All-gather Algorithms Resilient to Imbalanced Process Arrival Patterns
PublicationTwo novel algorithms for the all-gather operation resilient to imbalanced process arrival patterns (PATs) are presented. The first one, Background Disseminated Ring (BDR), is based on the regular parallel ring algorithm often supplied in MPI implementations and exploits an auxiliary background thread for early data exchange from faster processes to accelerate the performed all-gather operation. The other algorithm, Background Sorted...
