Empirical verification in industrial conditions of fracture mechanics models of cutting power prediction
PublicationA comparison of experimental results obtained in the industrial conditions at a sawmill located in the Baltic Natural Forest Region (PL) and theoretical cutting power consumption forecasted with the models which include work of separation (fracture toughness) in addition to plasticity and friction has been described. In computations of cutting power consumption during rip sawing of Scots pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) values of...

A Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) Bandpass Filter in A Box Configuration With Frequency-Dependent Coupling
PublicationThis letter presents the design of a microwave bandpass filter with frequency-dependent coupling implemented in substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. The proposed filter implements a four-pole generalized Chebyshev filtering function with two transmission zeros. Resonators are arranged in an extended box configuration with dispersive coupling on a main signal path, which produces an extra zero in comparison to classical...

A Novel Synthesis Technique for Microwave Bandpass Filters with Frequency-Dependent Couplings
PublicationThis paper presents a novel synthesis technique for microwave bandpass filters with frequency-dependent couplings. The proposed method is based on the systematic extraction of a dispersive coupling coefficient using an optimization technique based on the zeros and poles of scattering parameters representing two coupled resonators. The application of this method of synthesis is illustrated using two examples involving four and five-pole...

Multimodal Genetic Algorithm with Phase Analysis to Solve Complex Equations of Electromagnetic Analysis
PublicationIn this contribution, a new genetic-algorithm-based method of finding roots and poles of a complex function of a complex variable is presented. The algorithm employs the phase analysis of the function to explore the complex plane with the use of the genetic algorithm. Hence, the candidate regions of root and pole occurrences are selected and verified with the use of discrete Cauchy's argument principle. The algorithm is evaluated...

The origins of the brick architecture in Pomerania
PublicationTraditionally, brick is one of the most popular building materials on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea. Although the origins of brick architecture have been the subject of numerous research studies, their results were focused on the Kingdom of Denmark, merchant-towns and the State of the Teutonic Order. Most scholars claimed that Pomeranian architecture had not been as developed as that in the neighbouring countries. Moreover,...

Биополитика согласно Чеславу Милошу
PublicationThe paper shows the origins of the transformation of history into biohistory as well as politics into biopolitics in the writings of Miłosz. It takes into account his view of history when he was a child and his social experiences when he was at school. It proves that the fact that Miłosz comprehends the world within the categories of biopolitics results from projecting Darwinism on the historical past, and then projecting on...
