Evaluation of Lombard Speech Models in the Context of Speech in Noise Enhancement
PublikacjaThe Lombard effect is one of the most well-known effects of noise on speech production. Speech with the Lombard effect is more easily recognizable in noisy environments than normal natural speech. Our previous investigations showed that speech synthesis models might retain Lombard-effect characteristics. In this study, we investigate several speech models, such as harmonic, source-filter, and sinusoidal, applied to Lombard speech...

Surface irregularities as a complex signal of tool representation together with uneven displacement in respect to the workpiece
PublikacjaIn a dynamic machining process, distortion in surface irregularity is a very complex phenomenon. Surface irregularities form a periodic representation of the tool profile with various kinds of disturbance in a broad range of changes in the height and length of the profile. To discern these irregularity disturbances, interactions of the tool in the form of changes perpendicular and parallel relative to the workpiece were analyzed...

Bridge Non-Destructive Measurements Using a Laser Scanning during Acceptance Testing: Case Study
PublikacjaOwing to the recent proliferation of inventory works on roads and railways, bridge acceptance tests have increased exponentially. These tests’ results are often misinterpreted owing to the use of various measuring equipment types, rendering integrated interpretation problematic. It is also problematic that adjusting the measurement method is difficult when the structure’s response to load is uncertain. Therefore, it is important...

Impact of Low Switching-to-Fundamental Frequency Ratio on Predictive Current Control of PMSM: A simulation study
PublikacjaPredictive current control algorithms for permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) drives rely on an assumption that within short intervals motor currents can be approximated with linear functions. This approximation may result either from discretizing the motor model or from simplifications applied to the continuous-time model. As the linear current approximation has been recognized as inaccurate in case when the drive operates with...

Study of Slip Effects in Reverse Roll Coating Process Using Non-Isothermal Couple Stress Fluid
PublikacjaThe non-isothermal couple stress fluid inside a reverse roll coating geometry is considered. The slip condition is considered at the surfaces of the rolls. To develop the flow equations, the mathematical modelling is performed using conservation of momentum, mass, and energy. The LAT (lubrication approximation theory) is employed to simplify the equations. The closed form solution for velocity, temperature, and pressure gradient...

Analysis of an Attenuator Artifact in an Experimental Attack by Gunn–Allison–Abbott Against the Kirchhoff-Law–Johnson-Noise (KLJN) Secure Key Exchange System
PublikacjaA recent paper by Gunn–Allison–Abbott (GAA) [L. J. Gunn et al., Scientific Reports 4 (2014) 6461] argued that the Kirchhoff-law–Johnson-noise (KLJN) secure key exchange system could experience a severe information leak. Here we refute their results and demonstrate that GAA’s arguments ensue from a serious design flaw in their system. Specifically, an attenuator broke the single Kirchhoff-loop into two coupled loops, which is an...

Wave Frequency Effects on Damage Imaging in Adhesive Joints Using Lamb Waves and RMS
PublikacjaStructural adhesive joints have numerous applications in many fields of industry. The gradual deterioration of adhesive material over time causes a possibility of unexpected failure and the need for non-destructive testing of existing joints. The Lamb wave propagation method is one of the most promising techniques for the damage identification of such connections. The aim of this study was experimental and numerical research on...

This paper proposes a novel AFM probe based on dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs). The DE is modeled via the use of a hyperelastic Cosserat model. Size effects and geometric nonlinearity are included...

Continuous wave sonar with hyperbolic frequency modulation keyed by pseudo-random sequence
PublikacjaA CW FM type sounding signal is used in the classical solution of silent sonar.
