AN ALTERNATIVE WAY OF DETERMINING MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF WOOD BY MEASURING CUTTING FORCES
PublikacjaThe cutting force is an energetic effect of splitting material, and might be therefore considered from a point of view of modern fracture mechanics. The dedicated mathematical model developed for description of the wood cutting has been developed here on the base of fracture theory, and includes work of separation (fracture toughness) in addition to the material plasticity and friction. The effect of the cutting edge dullness is...

Inseparability criteria based on matrices of moments
PublikacjaInseparability criteria for continuous and discrete bipartite quantum states based on moments of annihilationand creation operators are studied by developing the idea of Shchukin-Vogel criterion Phys. Rev. Lett. 95,230502 2005. If a state is separable, then the corresponding matrix of moments is separable too. Thus, wederive generalized criteria based on the separability properties of the matrix of moments. In particular, acriterion...

Efficiency of exciton splitting in organic photovoltaic cells within EQE spectrum
PublikacjaThe paper presents a procedure of estimating the efficiency of exciton splitting at ED/EA interface. The procedure consists in evaluation of splitting of excitons into electron-hole pairs on the basis of the external quantum efficiency spectra of planar cells and spectra of absorbance of active organic layers. The fitting parameters are the exciton splitting probabilities at ED/EA interface. The presented procedure was applied...

PublikacjaWe propose to combine quantum chemical calculations, statistical mechanical methods, and photoionization and particle collision experiments to unravel the redistribution of internal energy of the furan cation and its dissociation pathways. This approach successfully reproduces the relative intensity of the different fragments as a function of the internal energy of the system in photoelectron–photoion coincidence experiments and...

Negative result about the construction of genuinely entangled subspaces from unextendible product bases
PublikacjaUnextendible product bases (UPBs) provide a versatile tool with various applications across different areas of quantum information theory. Their comprehensive characterization is thus of great importance and has been a subject of vital interest for over two decades now. An open question asks about the existence of UPBs, which are genuinely unextendible, i.e., they are not extendible even with biproduct vectors. In other words,...

We show that there are regimes when not only the register decoheres effectively to a classical bit string, but this bit string is redundantly encoded in the environment, making it available...

Elastoplastic law of Cosserat type in shell theory with drilling rotation
PublikacjaWithin the framework of six-parameter non-linear shell theory, with strain measures of the Cosserat type, we develop small-strain J2-type elastoplastic constitutive relations. The relations are obtained from the Cosserat plane stress relations assumed in each shell layer, by through-the-thickness integration employing the first-order shear theory. The formulation allows for unlimited translations and rotations. The constitutive...

Improving performance of large thrust bearings through modeling and experimentation
PublikacjaLarge thrust bearings are highly loaded machine elements and their failures cause serious losses. Start ups and stoppages of the bearing under load are specially critical regimes of operation. Load carrying capacity depends on the profile of the oil gap. In transient states this profile is also changing. In the design of large thrust bearings minimizing thermo-elastic deformations is an important goal, which can be accomplished...

This paper proposes a novel AFM probe based on dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs). The DE is modeled via the use of a hyperelastic Cosserat model. Size effects and geometric nonlinearity are included...

Few types of the contact of the shell with inclusions are considered. The weak setup of the problem is formulated...

PublikacjaIn the framework of the couple stress theory, we discuss the effective elastic properties of a metal open-cell foam. In this theory, we have the couple stress tensor, but the microrotations are fully described by displacements. To this end, we performed calculations for a representative volume element which give the matrices of elastic moduli relating stress and stress tensors with strain and microcurvature tensors.

Improved model of isothermal and incompressible fluid flow in pipelines versus the Darcy–Weisbach equation and the issue of friction factor
PublikacjaIn this article, we consider the modelling of stationary incompressible and isothermal one-dimensional fluid flow through a long pipeline. The approximation of the average pressure in the developed model by the arithmetic mean of inlet and outlet pressures leads to the known empirical Darcy–Weisbach equation. Most importantly, we also present another improved approach that is more accurate because the average pressure is estimated...

Response to David Steigmann’s discussion of our paper
PublikacjaWe respond to David Steigmann's discussion of our paper "A general theory for anisotropic Kirchhoff-Love shells with in-plane bending of embedded fibers, Math. Mech. Solids, 28(5):1274-1317" (arXiv:2101.03122). His discussion allows us to clarify two misleading statements in our original paper, and confirm that its formulation is fully consistent with the formulation of Steigmann. We also demonstrate that some of our original statements...

This experiment was numerically simulated using FSI (fluid–solid interaction) tools, namely the coupling...

For isotropic solids, SE condition transforms into two inequalities in terms of five gradient-elastic moduli.

This setup is particularly suitable for heterogeneous and fibrous materials such as textiles, biomaterials, composites and pantographic structures. The presented theory is a direct extension of classical Kirchhoff–Love shell theory to incorporate...
