Factors affecting the quality of bottled water
PublikacjaThe ever-increasing popularity of bottled water means that it is important to analyze not only its mineral content but also, above all,its content of possible contaminants, especially the organic ones. In this respect, bottled waters are a special case, because apartfrom organic chemical contaminants derived from the well from which they were acquired, their secondary contamination is alwayspossible, during treatment or storage...

Analytics of airport runoff water samples
PublikacjaThe everyday activities at airports, such as aircraft and ground vehicle washing, cleaning, de/anti-icing operations, fuelling, and fuel combustion, removing weeds are the main sources of airport industrial wastes. Runoff waters from airport areas constitute a serious environmental problem as they contribute to air, water, and soil pollution. The paper supplies general information on the technologies for treating airport runoff...

Dissociation energies of protonated water clusters
PublikacjaRelative abundances of positively ionized water clusters formed in a low-pressure electrical discharge as function of reduced electric field were obtained by using drift cell and quadrupole mass spectrometer. It was noticed that some clusters say with n = 4 were more abundant than others, at comparable drift conditions. Dissociation energies have been derived from equilibrium conditions for relative clusters abundances. The Hartree-Fock...

KTaO3 a perovskite for water and air treatment
PublikacjaPerovskites are inorganic compounds that exhibit dielectric properties. These minerals belong to the crystal ceramics family. These compounds are described by the formula: ABX3 where, A and B are 2, 3 or 4 valuable metal ions, and X is an ion of oxygen or fluorine. An example of perovskite is the compound KTaO3. There are many methods for producing KTaO3, but the hydrothermal method is most commonly used. Perovskites can be characterized...

Photolytic and Photocatalytic Recreational Water Treatment
PublikacjaDisinfection is one of the most important steps during recreational water treatment. Nevertheless, disinfection by-products are formed by conventional disinfectants, which pose several health threats. The concentration of disinfection by-products can be decreased by photolytic and photocatalytic treatment. Medium-pressure mercury lamp, UV-LEDs and solar irradiation were investigated and evaluated considering emitted wavelength,...

Water Behavior Near the Lipid Bilayer
PublikacjaIn this chapter, we focus on the dynamics of water molecules situated in the vicinity of a phospholipid bilayer. Using a molecular dynamics simulation method, we studied interactions between water and the bilayer and tracked trajectories of the water molecules. Based on the hypothesis that molecules trapped inside the bilayer make different motions than the ones which are either attached to the surface or move freely in the water...

Mechanical characterization of a gravel column in a calibration chamber operating as a triaxial cell
PublikacjaA series of tests considering the behavior of gravel columns was performed. A segment of column with a height of 1 m and a diameter of 0.53 m was modelled in a calibration chamber used as a triaxial cell at three different lateral stress applied. The vertical load transferred on the column head was simulated with steady increase of water pressures in the upper and lower membranes. During the loading the volumetric changes in the...

Protein overproduction alters exosome secretion in Chinese hamster ovary cells
PublikacjaDespite the abundance of available cell lines, nearly 70% of all recombinant therapeutic proteins today are produced in Chi-nese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. The impact of protein overproduction on the secretion of exosomes by CHO cells has been investigated here. Increased secretion of extracellular vesicles (EVs) by protein overexpressing CHO cells was demonstrated with protein content assay, nanoparticle tracking analysis, and...

Pool boiling heat transfer of water-Al2O3 and water-Cu nanofluids on horizontal stainless steel smooth and rough tubes

Ecological bearing systems for water turbines - two research programs aimed at making water turbines more "eco-friendly".
PublikacjaW pracy opisano próby wyeliminowania ropopochodnych środków smarowych z układów łożyskowania turbin wodnych. Próby dotyczą zastosowania bezsmarowych łożysk kierownic i smarowanych wodą łożysk wałów turbin. Wprowadzanie bezsmarowych łożysk kierownic wymaga stworzenia metod prognozowania ich trwałości w warunkach małych oscylacji. Do stosowania w łożyskach wałów zaproponowano smarowane wodą łożyska ceramiczne o oryginalnej konstrukcji,...
