Assessing Highway Travel Time Reliability using Probe Vehicle Data
PublikacjaProbe vehicle data (also known as “floating car data”) can be used to analyze travel time reliability of an existing road corridor in order to determine where, when, and how often traffic congestion occurs at particular road segments. The aim of the study is to find the best reliability performance measures for assessing congestion frequency and severity based on probe data. Pilot surveys conducted on A2 motorway in Poland confirm...

A Ship Domain-Based Method of Determining Action Distances for Evasive Manoeuvres in Stand-On Situations
PublikacjaA ship encounter can be considered safe if neither of ships’ domains (defined areas around ships) is intruded by other ships. Published research on this includes optimising collision avoidancemanoeuvres fulfilling domain-based safety conditions. However, until recently there was no method, using ship’s domain to determine exact moment when a particular collision avoidance manoeuvre can still be successfully performed. The authors...

Optimization of using recuperative braking energy on a double-track railway line
PublikacjaIn the introduction, possible ways of reusing energy from recuperation are presented. Next, the paper investigates the possibility of using regenerative braking in the range allowed by the detailed timetable by adopting the method of transferring the recovered electric energy directly to the catenary and immediate use of this energy by another train at the same power section. In the main part of the work, it is shown, that the...

The estimation of fish lenght distribution from its acoustical measures
PublikacjaThe paper concerns the problem of estimating fish length PDF from its target strength PDF obtained from acoustic surveys. It has been shown that the target strength of single fish can be treated in the first approximation as a finction of two variables: one, which depends on fish size and the other, which depends on its angular orientation (aspect). Extending this simplified relationship to the case of fish populations allows to...

Smart Email - Almost an Agent Platform
PublikacjaNetwork organizations suffer today of information overload and strain that rise their operational costs. One of the reasons of that is the dominance of email messaging as the princi-pal means of document exchange between their workers. Proac-tive documents can rationalize these costs and augment email systems with a process view based on collaboration patterns.

Simulating coherent light propagation in a random scattering materials using the perturbation expansion
PublikacjaMultiple scattering of a coherent light plays important role in the optical metrology. Probably the most important phenomenon caused by multiple scattering are the speckle patterns present in every optical imaging method based on coherent or partially coherent light illumination. In many cases the speckle patterns are considered as an undesired noise. However, they were found useful in various subsurface imaging methods such as...

A place of school in the idea of the sustainable development
PublikacjaWell designed school space enables social contacts, increases activity of pupils and improves the condition of their health. However, the best design would not bring the expected benefits if it is not integrated with the surroundings in terms of transportation, security and local needs. In the sustainable development, the social goals are in harmony with ecological aims according to the rule of "3 r" (reduce, reuse, recycle).

Dehydration converts DsbG crystal diffraction from low to high resolution
PublikacjaDiffraction quality crystals are essential for crystallographic studies of protein structure, and the production of poorly diffracting crystals is often regarded as a dead end in the process. Here we show a dramatic improvement of poorly diffracting DsbG crystals allowing high-resolution diffraction data measurement. Before dehydration, the crystals are fragile and the diffraction pattern is streaky, extending to 10 Å resolution....

The sequence of the ITIL implementation relies on such parameters as scope, depth, the capability of processes and the maturity of the organization. These factors can form common patterns of ITIL implementation that might be expressed as rules. Also-to semantically reinforce such a model in its predictiveness and replicativeness-the...

Contribution to the mechanism of liquid membrane oscillators involving cationic surfactant.
PublikacjaIt is shown that liquid membrane oscillators with cationic surfactants havemore complex oscillation patterns than observed previously. It appearsthat sampling topology also has a great influence on the observed oscillato-ry behaviour. Variation of oscillation patterns with...
