Assessment of protective properties of rubber lining in absorbers of flue gas desulphurization systems.
PublicationResults of research on degradation of rubber lining which is the main protection of absorbers in flue gas desulphurization (FGD) systems were presented. The power plant where the system operated is lignite-fired. Owing to measurements using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and gravimetric determination of water content in the lining, the areas of the system which are most exposed to degradation were shown. Softwood-lignin/natural rubber composites containing novel plasticizing agent: Preparation and characterization
PublicationComposite materials based on natural rubber were obtained by using glycerolysate (decomposition prod- uct of polyurethane) as a novel plasticizer. In order to determine the effect of various lignin content, four different filler amounts were used, namely, 5 phr (parts per 100 parts of natural rubber) of lignin (WLI5G), 10 phr (WLI10G), 20 phr (WLI20G), and 40 phr (WLI40G). The reference specimen without lignin (WLI0G) was also...

A comparative study on selective properties of Kraft lignin–natural rubber composites containing different plasticizers
PublicationEffect of plasticizer type on the kraft lignin–nat- ural rubber composite microstructure and selected proper- ties was determined. The composites were prepared with addition of a commonly used naphthenic oil plasticizer to study the decomposition product of polyurethane (glyc- erolysate) and its characteristics. Kraft lignin powder was incorporated into the natural rubber matrix in amounts of 10 and 40 parts per 100 parts of natural...

Temperature Measurements at Tyre Tread Rubber on Sandpaper Oscillatory Sliding Contacts Using Acicular Grindable Thermocouples
PublicationThe tribological performance of tyre–road contacts depends crucially on the contact temperature. This study investigates the reliability and accuracy of acicular grindable thermocouples possessing an original needle-shaped wearable part as applied to measuring temperature at the oscillatory sliding contact between a rubber tyre tread sample and a sandpaper. A linear oscillatory tribometer is used to imitate the sliding phase of...

DETERMINATION OF THE HYDROXYL NUMBER OF GROUND TIRE RUBBER PARTICLES VIA MODIFIED TEST METHOD FOR ISOCYANATE GROUPS
PublicationNowadays, considering the environmental trends and law regulations associated with the circular economy, it is very important to seek for the methods of by-products and waste utilization. The example of such material, which requires the attention and recycling method is ground tire rubber generated during recycling of post-consumer car tires. It can be introduced into various polymer matrices as a filler, but to enhance its effectivity...

The influence of rubber recyclate morphology on the properties of rubber-asphalt composite
PublicationIn the paper wastes, mostly in the form of used tires, were analyzed. One of the methods of waste tires application use them as a modifier of asphalt. However, the properties of rubber-asphalt composites depend on the morphology of waste tiregranulate and kind of tire recycled (car/truck). In this chapter, the influence of grinding methods of waste tire on the prop¬erties of rubber-asphalt composites were studied. SEM analysis...

ATTEMPT AT EVALUATING THE INFLUENCE OF BENDING STRESS ON SHAFT WEAR PROCESSES IN WATER LUBRICATED SLIDING BEARING WITH A RUBBER BUSHING
PublicationWater lubricated bearings find increasingly wide application in shipbuilding or hydro–power industry, the popularity stemming from their numerous advantages. Unfortunately, as it turns out, water lubricated bearings do not always meet expectations, as on occasion they become subject to intense, premature wear which requires costly repair. One of the still unexplained phenomena is the process of excessive bearing wear, in particular...

The effect of tyre rubber grinding method on the rubber-asphalt binder properties
PublicationRubber products, especially those used in the automotive industry, are responsible for a significant amount of waste, mainly in the form of worn tyres. One way to recycle tyres is to use them as an asphalt binder modifier. The properties of rubber-asphalt binders vary greatly depending on the morphology of the ground tyre rubber (GTR) grains and the type of tyre to be recycled (car/truck). The paper presents the results of research...
