Soil contamination with geohelminths in children’s play areas in Szczecin, Poland
PublicationThe presence of invasive forms of parasites in the soil represents a potential threat to public health, especially for children. The aim of the study was to determine the degree of contamination with geohelminth eggs of soil samples collected from sandpits and playgrounds in the Szczecin area. The findings showed overall prevalence of soil samples contaminated with geohelminth eggs in the soil and sand...

X-ray and UV Radiation Damage of dsDNA/Protein Complexes
PublicationRadiation and photodynamic therapies are used for cancer treatment by targeting DNA. However, efficiency is limited due to physico-chemical processes and the insensitivity of native nucleobases to damage. Thus, incorporation of radio- and photosensitizers into these therapies should increase both efficacy and the yield of DNA damage. To date, studies of sensitization processes have been performed on simple model systems, e.g.,...

How non-technological innovation saved the day by using ICT
PublicationCertainly, the current pandemic situation provides a lot of evidence of the need for non-technological innovations, both in the area of company organization and marketing. Socio-cultural innovations are not less important. Therefore, the role of non-technological innovation during the COVID-19 pandemic is discussed in the sixth chapter. Innovations supported by digital solutions have become a silent heroes for many companies as...

Experimental study and numerical simulation of the dynamic penetration into dry clay
PublicationTests of dry clay were carried out in a uniaxial stress state using the experimental setup which implements the split Hopkinson pressure bar method. Based on the results of these experiments, the compressive strength of clay was determined as an important element of S.S. Grigoryan’s model of the soil medium. In addition, the parameters of this model are determined from the results of experiments using the modified Kolsky method...

Elastoplastic law of Cosserat type in shell theory with drilling rotation
PublicationWithin the framework of six-parameter non-linear shell theory, with strain measures of the Cosserat type, we develop small-strain J2-type elastoplastic constitutive relations. The relations are obtained from the Cosserat plane stress relations assumed in each shell layer, by through-the-thickness integration employing the first-order shear theory. The formulation allows for unlimited translations and rotations. The constitutive...

Diagnostics of bolted lap joint using guided wave propagation
PublicationThe paper presents numerical and experimental analyses of elastic waves propagation in a bolted lap joint. In experimental investigations condition assessment of the joint was performed with the use of symmetric waves excited by a piezoactuator. Numerical calculations were conducted in commercial finite element method software Abaqus. The influence of number of bolts and the value of the initial stress on recorded signals was examined....

Quantum mechanical which-way experiment with an internal degree of freedom
PublicationFor a particle travelling through an interferometer, the trade-off between the available which-way information and the interference visibility provides a lucid manifestation of the quantum mechanical wave-particle duality. Here we analyse this relation for a particle possessing an internal degree of freedom such as spin. We quantify the trade-off with a general inequality that paints an unexpectedly intricate picture of wave-particle...

Damage detection in a bolted lap joint using guided waves
PublicationThe paper presents the experimental investigation of guided waves application to the condition assessment of prestressed bolted connections and a concept of new quantitative indicator. The main goal of the research was the analysis of the influence of the contact conditions changes to the characteristics of a propagating disturbance. The experimental tests were carried out for a single bolted lap joint. The excitation and acquisition...

Elastoplastic material law in 6-parameter nonlinear shell theory
PublicationWe develop the elastoplastic constitutive relations for nonlinear exact 6-parameter shell theory. A J2-type theory with strain hardening is formulated that takes into account asymmetric membrane strain measures. The incremental equations are solved using implicit Euler scheme with closest point projection algorithm. The presented test example shows the correctness of the proposed approach. Influence of micropolar material parameters...

Przed modernizmem - style w gdyńskiej architekturze lat dwudziestych

Maksymalizacja zasięgu i przepustowości informacyjnejw systemach DWDM

Comparison of the coordination geometries of Zn(II) and Cd(II) ions in complexes with water, methanol and bulky aryloxysilanethiolate ligands
PublicationZinc and cadmium complexes containing silanethiolate anions and methanol or water were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. Contrary to zinc, the cadmium ion utilizes very weak donors to complete its coordination sphere; it forms contacts to phenyl rings of the silanethiolate ligand. Two zinc analogs of the general formula [Zn{SSi(OAr)3}2(L)2] where L = CH3OH (2)...

L'humanisation de la justice criminelle dans la France desLumieres
PublicationIn pre-revolutionary France criminal justice is regulated by the Ordinance Louis XIV of 1670. This Ordinance provides for torture as the major method of investigation and for the death penalty as the most commonly used form of punishment. One of the major concerns of French eighteenthcentury philosophers is therefore a radical reform of criminal justice and its humanisation in the spirit of Enlightenment. Many philosophers take...
