Influence of external walls' thermal capacitance on indoor thermal comfort
PublicationThe doctoral thesis presents the results of numerical investigations on the influence of walls’ thermal capacitance on indoor thermal comfort. A proper set of thermal parameters of a building structure can considerably limit the heating / cooling demand, and passively increase the indoor thermal comfort. However the effect of building thermal capacitance on indoor conditions is complex and not always beneficial. Among a great number...

A refined Timoshenko beam theory is here applied, which is only based on one unknown variable, in accordance with the...

Preparation and characterisation of solution-cast Nafion membrane
PublicationNafion is a commercial name for a perfluorosulfonic polymer, which has been developed in 1962 by Dupont de Nemours. This polymer consists of a polytetrafluoroethylene backbone and regular spaced long perfluorovinyl ether pendant side chains terminated by a sulfonate ionic group. These sulfonate groups are responsible for cation-exchange properties of Nafion. Thanks to the ion-exchange properties, water permeability, good chemical,...

Investigation of long-range dependencies in the stochastic part of daily GPS solutions
PublicationThe long-range dependence (LRD) of the stochastic part of GPS-derived topocentric coordinates change (North, East, Up) results with relatively high autocorrelation values with a focus on self-similarity. One of the reasons for such self-similarity in the GPS time series are noises that are commonly recognised to prevail in the form of the flicker noise model. To prove the self-similarity of the stochastic part of GPS time series...

Heteroclinic solutions of Allen-Cahn type equations with a general elliptic operator
PublicationWe consider a generalization of the Allen-Cahn type equation in divergence form $-\rm{div}(\nabla G(\nabla u(x,y)))+F_u(x,y,u(x,y))=0$. This is more general than the usual Laplace operator. We prove the existence and regularity of heteroclinic solutions under standard ellipticity and $m$-growth conditions.

On existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for linear pantographic beam lattices models
PublicationIn this paper, we discuss well-posedness of the boundary-value problems arising in some “gradientincomplete” strain-gradient elasticity models, which appear in the study of homogenized models for a large class ofmetamaterials whosemicrostructures can be regarded as beam lattices constrained with internal pivots. We use the attribute “gradient-incomplete” strain-gradient elasticity for a model in which the considered strain energy...

A convergence result for mountain pass periodic solutions of perturbed Hamiltonian systems
PublicationIn this work, we study second-order Hamiltonian systems under small perturbations. We assume that the main term of the system has a mountain pass structure, but do not suppose any condition on the perturbation. We prove the existence of a periodic solution. Moreover, we show that periodic solutions of perturbed systems converge to periodic solutions of the unperturbed systems if the perturbation tends to zero. The assumption on...

PublicationWe consider the elliptic partial differential equation in the divergence form $$-\div(\nabla G(\nabla u(x))) t + F_u (x, u(x)) = 0,$$ where $G$ is a convex, anisotropic function satisfying certain growth and ellipticity conditions We prove that weak solutions in $W^{1,G}$ are in fact of class $W^{2,2}_{loc}\cap W^{1,\infty}_{loc}$.

Existence of Two Periodic Solutions to General Anisotropic Euler-Lagrange Equations
PublicationAbstract. This paper is concerned with the following Euler-Lagrange system d/dtLv(t,u(t), ̇u(t)) =Lx(t,u(t), ̇u(t)) for a.e.t∈[−T,T], u(−T) =u(T), Lv(−T,u(−T), ̇u(−T)) =Lv(T,u(T), ̇u(T)), where Lagrangian is given by L=F(t,x,v) +V(t,x) +〈f(t),x〉, growth conditions aredetermined by an anisotropic G-function and some geometric conditions at infinity. We consider two cases: with and without forcing termf. Using a general version...

Interactions in aqueous solutions of K-peptide and DMSO – spectroscopic and calorimetric studies

Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is an osmolyte which can alter this ability. Our goal was to get an insight into the mechanism of Kpeptide-DMSO interactions in aqueous solutions. Such a knowledge can be helpful to understand processes leading to various neurodegenerative diseases. Methods ATR-FTIR...

Mountain pass solutions to Euler-Lagrange equations with general anisotropic operator
PublicationUsing the Mountain Pass Theorem we show that the problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} \frac{d}{dt}\Lcal_v(t,u(t),\dot u(t))=\Lcal_x(t,u(t),\dot u(t))\quad \text{ for a.e. }t\in[a,b]\\ u(a)=u(b)=0 \end{cases} \end{equation*} has a solution in anisotropic Orlicz-Sobolev space. We consider Lagrangian $\Lcal=F(t,x,v)+V(t,x)+\langle f(t), x\rangle$ with growth conditions determined by anisotropic G-function and some geometric conditions...

Magnetoelectric effect in (BiFeO3)x–(BaTiO3)1-x solid solutions
PublicationThe aim of the present work was to study magnetoelectric effect (ME) in (BiFeO3)x–(BaTiO3)1x solid solutions in terms of technological conditions applied in the samples fabrication process. The rapidly growing interest in these materials is caused by their multiferroic behaviour, i.e. coexistence of both electric and magnetic ordering. It creates possibility for many innovative applications, e.g. in steering the magnetic memory...

Positive solutions to Sturm–Liouville problems with non-local boundary conditions
PublicationIn this paper, the existence of at least three non-negative solutions to non-local boundary-value problems for second-order differential equations with deviating arguments α and ζ is investigated. Sufficient conditions, which guarantee the existence of positive solutions, are obtained using the Avery–Peterson theorem. We discuss our problem for both advanced and delayed arguments. An example is added to illustrate the results.

Quantum corrections to 4 model solutions and applications to Heisenberg chain dynamics

Quantum corrections to classical solutions of the one-dimensional φ^4 model within the correspondent physics are valuated with account of rest d − 1 dimensions of a d-dimensional theory. A quantization of the model is considered in terms of space- time functional integral. The generalized zeta-function formalism is used to renormalize and evaluate the functional...

Positive solutions to advanced fractional differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions
PublicationWe study the existence of positive solutions for a class of higher order fractional differential equations with advanced arguments and boundary value problems involving Stieltjes integral conditions. The fixed point theorem due to Avery-Peterson is used to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of multiple positive solutions. Certain of our results improve on recent work in the literature.
