EFFECT OF ANTIOXIDANTS ON THE STABILITY OF PITCH- BASED POLYMER TO THERMO-OXIDATIVE ACTION
PublicationThe influence of stabilizers – hydrogen donors – on the processes of thermooxidative destruction of pitch-based polymer has been investigated. It is shown that Irganox has not stabilizing effect on pitch-based polymer and melamine slightly retards the destructive process. A mixture of melamine and Irganox exhibits synergetic stabilizing effect and at the optimum ratio it can be used to prevent unwanted thermooxidative processes...

The effect of macro polymer fibres length and content on the fibre reinforced concrete
PublicationThe paper presents studies of a ready-mix concrete containing polymer fibres of three different lengths: 24, 38 and 54 mm. The performed tests allowed to determine the effect of fibre volume fraction and length on the concrete strength. The basic parameters of concrete mixture (consistency, air content and bulk density) were identified. Fibre reinforced concrete belongs to a group of composite materials. The polymer fibres are...

TESTING CONTRACTION AND THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENT OF CONSTRUCTION AND MOULDING POLYMER COMPOSITES
PublicationThe paper presents results of systematic tests of contraction and thermal expansion coefficients of materials based on polymer composites. The information on the above material properties is essential both at the design stage and during the use of finished products. Components for the samples were selected in such a way as to represent typical materials used for production of construction and moulding elements. The performed tests...

Bulk-Surface Modification of Nanoparticles for Developing Highly-Crosslinked Polymer Nanocomposites
PublicationSurface modification of nanoparticles with functional molecules has become a routine method to compensate for diffusion-controlled crosslinking of thermoset polymer composites at late stages of crosslinking, while bulk modification has not carefully been discussed. In this work, a highly-crosslinked model polymer nanocomposite based on epoxy and surface-bulk functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was developed. MNPs were...

Polymer biodegradable coatings as active substance release systems for urological applications
PublicationCatheter-associated urinary tract infections are the result of catheterization of the bladder. The risk of infection is directly proportional to the length of the bladder catheterization. Bacteria cells have the ability to adhere and create the biofilm on the surface of catheter materials. Bacteria’s biofilm is an extremely beneficial environment of existence for microorganisms. Microorganisms that are an integral part of the biofilm...

Polarization interferometer using a Liquid Crystalline Polymer waveplate for wavelength measurement
PublicationA two-beam polarization interferometer for measuring wavelength changes of a tunable semiconductor laser was designed, built and tested. This interferometer uses a λ/8 waveplate made from Liquid Crystalline Polymer in order to generate two output signals in quadrature. The λ/8 waveplate can be manufactured either on a beamsplitter face or on the mirror surface, reducing the cost and complexity of the optomechnical assembly. Experiment...

Interferometric Sensor of Wavelength Detuning Using a Liquid Crystalline Polymer Waveplate
PublicationOperation of a polarization interferometer for measurement of the wavelength changes of a tunable semiconductor laser was investigated. A lambda/8 waveplate made from liquid crystalline polymer is placed in one of interferometers’ arms in order to generate two output signals in quadrature. Wavelength was measured with resolution of 2 pm in the wavelength range 628–635 nm. Drift of the interferometer, measured in the period of 500...

The effect of the exposure-in-oil on the contact of the polymers forming sliding layers in hydrodynamic bearings.

PublicationFor micropolar media we present a new definition of the local material symmetry group considering invariant properties of the both kinetic energy and strain energy density under changes of a reference placement. Unlike simple (Cauchy) materials, micropolar media can be characterized through two kinematically independent fields, that are translation vector and orthogonal microrotation tensor. In other words, in micropolar continua...
