Identification of the mechanical properties of the skin by electromechanical impedance analysis of resonant piezoelectric actuator
PublicationThis paper is devoted to the analysis and verification of developed piezoelectric sensor/actuator for measuring the mechanical properties of soft tissues, especially human skin. The key element of the measurement structure is an electromechanical system that uses both the reverse piezoelectric effect (vibration generation – stimulation of the tissues in the appropriate frequency range) and direct piezoelectric effect (system response...

Modelling Wetland Growing Season Rainfall Interception Losses Based on Maximum Canopy Storage Measurements
PublicationThis study estimates rainfall interception losses from natural wetland ecosystems based on maximum canopy storage measurements. Rainfall interception losses play an important role in water balance, which is crucial in wetlands, and has not yet been thoroughly studied in relation to this type of ecosystem. Maximum canopy storage was measured using the weight method. Based on these measurements, daily values of interception losses...

Determinants of COVID-19 Impact on the Private Sector: A Multi-Country Analysis Based on Survey Data
PublicationOur paper aims to investigate the impact of COVID‐19 on private sector companies in terms of sales, production, finance and employment. We check whether the country and industry in which companies operate, government financial support and loan access matter to the behaviour and performances of companies during the pandemic. We use a microdata set from a worldwide survey of more than 15,729 companies conducted between April and...

The Effect of Online Reviews on Consumer-Based Brand Equity: Case-Study of the Polish Restaurant Sector
PublicationPurpose: This paper focuses on the effects of positive and negative online reviews (eWOM) on the metrics of consumer-based brand equity (CBBE) in the context of the Polish restaurant sector. Methodology: The dedicated online survey was completed by 777 consumers, which we then analyzed with structural equation modeling. Each catering outlet was to allow to order meals online. We used descriptive analysis, confirmatory factor analysis,...

GRAPHENE IN GAS CHEMIRESISTORS
PublicationGraphene has a range of unique physical properties which could be exploited in gas sensing. Every atom of graphene may be considered as a surface atom, able to interact even with single molecule of the target gas or vapour species resulting in the ultrasensitive sensor response. In this paper the potential of graphene as a nanomaterial for fabricating chemiresistors was described. Recent development in graphene sensors was considered...

Excitation-independent constant conductance isfet driver
PublicationA new constant conductance driver for ISFETs sensors has been developed. The proposed circuit maintains the sensor operating point at constant drain-source conductance. The combination of a simple, self-balancing resistance bridge and the subtraction half (or similar fraction) of source-drain voltage from the gate-source voltage provides the independence of output signal from current and voltage drivers instability. The use of...

EVALUATION OF THE NO2CONCENTRATION PREDICTION POSSIBILITYBASED ON STATIC AND DYNAMIC RESPONSES OF TGS SENSORSAT CHANGING HUMIDITY LEVELS
PublicationThe commercially available metal-oxide TGS sensors are widely used in many applications due to thefact that they are inexpensive and considered to be reliable. However, they are partially selective and theirresponses are influenced by various factors,e.g. temperature or humidity level. Therefore, it is importanttodesign a proper analysis system of the sensor responses. In this paper, the results of examinations of eightcommercial...

A new duty cycles calculation method in pulse width modulation for direct matrix converters based on the shape function concept
PublicationPaper presents a new approach to duty cycle calculation in pulse width modulation for direct matrix converters. The essence of the proposed method is the use of elementary shape function of finite element. The algorithm for calculating the duty cycles was reduced to simple operations on the coordinates of input and output voltage vectors without trigonometric functions.

Performance of the Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Underwater Acoustic Communication System with Differential Detection in Strong Multipath Propagation Conditions
PublicationThe underwater acoustic communication (UAC) operating in very shallow-water should ensure reliable transmission in conditions of strong multipath propagation, significantly disturbing the received signal. One of the techniques to achieve this goal is the direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technique, which consists in binary phase shift keying (BPSK) according to a pseudo-random spreading sequence. This paper describes the DSSS...
