Blood equivalent phantom vs whole human blood, a comparative study
PublikacjaPreclinical research of biomedical optoelectronic devices is often performed with the use of blood phantoms — a simpli¯ed physical model of blood. The aim of this study is the comparison and distinction between blood phantoms as well as whole human blood measurements. We show how the use of such phantoms may in°uence the incorrect interpretation of measured signal. On the other hand, we highlight how the use of blood phantoms enables...

Genetic programming extension to APF-based monocular human body pose estimation
PublikacjaNew method of the human body pose estimation based on a single camera 2D observation is presented, aimed at smart surveillance related video analysis and action recognition. It employs 3D model of the human body, and genetic algorithm combined with annealed particle filter for searching the global optimum of model state, best matching the object's 2D observation. Additionally, new motion cost metric is employed, considering current...

Konzetrationslöschung durch Energieübertragung bei der Lumineszenz von Lösungen
PublikacjaThe absorption spectra and quantum yields of the fluorescence of rhodamine 6 G are investigated in two different water-glycerol mixtures as a function of the rhodamine concentration. The observed concentration quenching is attributed to the formation of rhodamine dimers and the decrease in quantum yield is compared with theoretical concepts about concentration quenching by energy transfer to the dimers.

Evaluation of long‑term immunity and protection against T. gondii after immunization with multivalent recombinant chimeric T. gondii proteins
PublikacjaToxoplasmosis caused by the opportunistic, cosmopolitan protozoan Toxoplasma gondii is one of the most common parasitoses in the world. Although it may prove dangerous or even fatal for immunocompromised individuals, immunoprophylaxis for humans is still nonexistent. Thus, the aim of the current work was to assess the ability of two immunogenic recombinant chimeric T. gondii proteins, SAG2-GRA1-ROP1 (SGR) and SAG1-MIC1-MAG1-GRA2...

Colloidal transport of lipid digesta in human and porcine small intestinal mucus
PublikacjaSmall intestinal mucus transport of food-derived particulates has not been extensively studied, despite mucus being a barrier nutrients need to cross before absorption. We used complex dispersions of digesta obtained from simulated, dynamic gastrointestinal digestion of yogurt to examine the penetrability of human and porcine mucus to the particles formed of lipolysis products. Quantitative, time-lapse confocal microscopy revealed...

Dissecting gamma frequency activities during human memory processing
PublikacjaGamma frequency activity (30-150 Hz) is induced in cognitive tasks and is thought to reflect underlying neural processes. Gamma frequency activity can be recorded directly from the human brain using intracranial electrodes implanted in patients undergoing treatment for drug-resistant epilepsy. Previous studies have independently explored narrowband oscillations in the local field potential and broadband power increases. It is not...

New sample preparation strategies for comprehensive lipidomics of human breast milk
PublikacjaGLOBAL PROFILING ANALYSIS OF HUMAN BREAST MILK (HBM) LIPIDS IS HINDERED BY COMPLEX COMPOSITION OF HBM. THIS PROBLEM IS HUGE FROM ANALYTICAL POINT OF VIEW, SINCE DUE TO THAT DETECTION OF ALL HBM LIPIDS DURING ONE ANALYTICAL RUN IS LIMITED. THUS, SAMPLE PREPARATION STEP CONSTITUTES A CRUCIAL STEP IN UNTARGETED LIPIDOMIC ANALYSIS OF HBM, ESPECIALLY WHEN SEMI-QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS IS ASSUMED. HEREIN, WE PRESENT A COMPARISON OF PUBLISHED...
