ELECTRON-IMPACT IONIZATION CROSS SECTIONS CALCULATIONS FOR PURINE AND PYRIMIDINE MOLECULES
PublikacjaCross sections for electron-impact ionization of purine and pyrimidine molecules have been calculated using binary-encounter-Bethe method for electron energies ranging from the ionization threshold up to 5 keV. Ionization cross section for purine molecules is 1.4 times higher than for pyrimidine molecules. Acceptable agreement between experimental and theoretical ionization data for pyrimidine molecule has been found.

Contextual ontology for tonality assessment
Publikacjaclassification tasks. The discussion focuses on two important research hypotheses: (1) whether it is possible to construct such an ontology from a corpus of textual document, and (2) whether it is possible and beneficial to use inferencing from this ontology to support the process of sentiment classification. To support the first hypothesis we present a method of extraction of hierarchy of contexts from a set of textual documents...

Greenness assessment of analytical methods used for antibiotic residues determination in food samples
PublikacjaFood of animal origin plays an important role in ensuring a healthy and sustainable human diet. However, residues of pharmaceuticals, especially antibiotics, can be the cause of many health problems. To protect consumers and improve food quality, analytical methods used to determine contaminants should be simple, selective, and have high throughput and low detection limits. Recently, greenness metric tools have proven useful in...

The health impact of urban parks along waterways
PublikacjaWell designed parks along waterways could promote health and well-being of local inhabitants. The way the human settlements meet water bodies can influence the habits of local population. How people spend their time have significant impact on their health. For example, a team of Japanese scientists has proven that a well designed walk-able green spaces are crucial for the longevity of elderly citizens (Takano T. et al, 2002). Nature...

Superheroes or Super Spreaders? The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Social Attitudes towards Nurses: A Qualitative Study from Poland
PublikacjaThe social perception of the nursing profession in Poland is profoundly affected by social stereotypes that may discourage young people from entering the profession and lead to prejudice towards nurses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses gained visibility, which caused the social image of nurses to likewise grow. In this study, we explore nurses’ experiences with respect to how the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the social image...

Behaviour of deformed steel columns exposed to impact load during earthquakes - experimental study
PublikacjaIt has been observed during major earthquakes that the so called soft-storey failure of an upper floor of a structure results in large impact load acting on structural members of the lower storeys. It may further lead to progressive collapse of the whole structure substantially intensifying human and material losses. The aim of this paper is to investigate experimentally the behaviour of horizontally deformed columns (deformation...

Impact of Cyclist Facility Availability at Work on the Number of Bike Commuters
PublikacjaThe article describes the results of research designed to establish whether cycle provision can influence the number of employees commuting by bike. To that end, employee surveys were conducted in three IT companies in 2012 and 2016. The questionnaire asked about travel behaviour and what the staff thought about their company’s provision of cyclist facilities. Since 2012 each of the companies has moved its head office and the...

Monitoring and efficiency assessment of biofilter air deodorization using electronic nose prototype
PublikacjaBiofiltration is one of the techniques used to reduce odorants in the air. It is based on the aerobic degradation of pollutants by microorganisms located in the filter bed. The research presents the possibility of using the electronic nose prototype for monitoring and efficiency assessment of air biofiltration. The study was conducted using model gas mixtures containing representatives of three groups of chemical compounds: n-hexane...

Optimisation and field assessment of poroelastic wearing course bond quality
PublikacjaCompared to typical asphalt mixtures, poroelastic mixtures are characterised by high porosity and high flexibility, which are desirable for traffic noise reduction. However, the same properties increase the risk of debonding from the lower layer, which is a significant source of premature damage. The study investigates which of the factors – tack coat agent, type and texture of the lower layer – have the greatest impact on interlayer...

Degradation of stiffness of building columns exposed to bending and impact load during ground motions
PublikacjaThe safety of civil engineering structures under external loads, including ground motions, is one of the issues related to the idea of sustainable society. The earthquake-induced soft-storey failure is a typical type of damage observed in buildings due to seismic excitation. The failure of an intermediate soft storey of a structure results in large vertical impact loading acting on the lower floors due to the fall of the upper...

Evaluation of the Impact of Different Types of Uncoupling on the Processing Capacity of Hump Yards
PublikacjaThe paper considers the issue of evaluating the impact of different types of uncoupling to increase the processing capacity of hump yards to ensure high technical-economic indicators in the conditions of limited capital funds. Moreover it describes the mathematical formulation of the sorting slide. For the mathematical formulation, the sorting slide is taken as a surface that is uniquely projected onto a horizontal plane. Based...
