Macromodels for Efficient Analysis of Open-Region Problems Using the Finite Element Method
PublikacjaThis paper presents a local model-order reduction, called macromodeling, applied to speed-up the simulations of open-region problems, analyzed by means of finite element method. This technique is illustrated by a numerical example, which deals with a dielectric resonator antenna (DRA). The obtained results show that the proposed approach is reliable and can significantly increase the standard finite element method efficiency.

Activated Sludge Process Development
PublikacjaThis paper summarizes the most significant steps in the activated sludge process development and recognizes key contributors. Recognition of the roles of oxygen and living organisms was the first step (1882-1914). Ardern and Lockett (1914) named the accumulated olids "activated sludge". The process was rapidly accepted and applied in the period 1914-1930. The most dramatic changes in the activated sludge process understanding and...

Nonlinear Influence of Sound on the Vibrational Energy of Molecules in a Relaxing Gas
PublikacjaDynamics of a weakly nonlinear and weakly dispersive flow of a gas where molecular vibrational relaxation takes place is studied. Variations in the vibrational energy in the field of intense sound is considered. These variations are caused by a nonlinear transfer of the acoustic energy into energy of vibrational degrees of freedom in a relaxing gas. The final dynamic equation which describes this is instantaneous, it includes a...

New conjugates of tuftsin and muramyl dipeptide as stimulators of human monocytes-derived dendritic cells
PublikacjaMuramyl dipeptide (MDP) and tuftsin are known biologically active compound displaying a significant influence on various cell populations of innate immune response. MDP, as a fragment of bacterial cell wall, stimulates not only macrophages and monocytes, but also dendritic cells. In contrast, little is known about tuftsin influence on these cells. Therefore it seemed vital to access whether tuftsin or its derivatives conjugated...
