Greenery and Urban Form vs. Health of Residents: Evaluation of Modernist Housing in Lodz and Gdansk
PublicationUrban forms can have numerous direct and indirect effects on the health of residents. This article focuses on the rela‐ tionship between health and urban form, in particular the role of green open spaces. The goal is to identify criteria for evaluating the impact of physical forms such as streets and open spaces, green infrastructure, and built structures on urban health. These criteria are then used to identify paths for the redevelopment...

Anti-plane surface waves in media with surface structure: Discrete vs. continuum model
PublicationWe present a comparison of the dispersion relations derived for anti-plane surface waves using the two distinct approaches of the surface elasticity vis-a-vis the lattice dynamics. We consider an elastic half-space with surface stresses described within the Gurtin–Murdoch model, and present a formulation of its discrete counterpart that is a square lattice half-plane with surface row of particles having mass and elastic bonds different...

Facile preparation of extremely photoactive boron-doped TiO2 nanotubes arrays
PublicationDoping of TiO2 nanotube arrays with boron was realized via electrochemical treatment of as-anodized titania immersed in electrolyte containing boric acid. The photoactivity of doped and pure titania was examined by means of photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic response under UV-vis irradiation. The results showed that photocurrent density of B-TNTs is remarkably higher (7.5 times) than density of pure TiO2 nanotube arrays. Furthermore,...

Helicity Discrimination in Diaryl Dichalcogenides Generateded by Inclusion Complexation with Chiral Hosts
Niska bariera rotacji wokół wiązania chalogen-chalogen skutkuje szybką racemizacją molekuł tych związków w roztworze i uniemożliwia badanie czynności optycznej. Wykazaliśmy,...

Thioamides and selenoamides with chirality solely due to hindered rotation about the C-N bond: enantioselective complexation with optically active hosts
PublicationBariera rotacji wokół wiązania C-N w tioamidach jest średnio o 3-5 kcal/mol wyższa niż w odpowiednich amidach, a w analogicznych selenoamidach wzrasta jeszcze o 1 kcal/mol.
