PublikacjaA switched parasitic monopole antenna for 2.4 GHz ISM applications is design and investigated in this paper. One of the most promising applications for such switched-beam antennas is localization in wireless sensor networks (WSN). It is demonstrated that the use of this antenna improves accuracy of localization algorithms and allows for reduction of the number of reference nodes in localization system.

Advantageous conditions of saccharification of lignocellulosic biomass for biofuels generation via fermentation processes
PublikacjaProcessing of lignocellulosic biomass includes four major unit operations: pre-treatment, hydrolysis, fermentation and product purifcation prior to biofuel generation via anaerobic digestion. The microorganisms involved in the fermentation metabolize only simple molecules, i.e., monosugars which can be obtained by carrying out the degradation of complex polymers, the main component of lignocellulosic biomass. The object of this...

Influence of datasets decreased by applying reduction and generation methods on Digital Terrain Models
PublikacjaThe number of point clouds provided by LiDAR technology can be sometimes seen as a problem in development and further processing for given purposes (e.g. Digital Terrain Model (DTM) generation). Therefore, there is still a need to reduce the obtained big datasets. Reducing can be done, inter alia, by reducing the size of the set or by generating the set. This paper presents two variants of the reduction of point clouds in order...

Family business succession – the practical or also theoretical problem. Bibliometric analysis
PublikacjaFamily businesses, in various forms, have existed since societies began to be created. However, family business research has a decidedly shorter tradition. In favorable conditions, family enterprises develop for many generations, and their fate is intertwined with the fate of the families. The topics of family businesses are raised by researchers around the world. Estimates regarding the number of family businesses are a frequent...

Urban Mentoring as a new polish management technique in participatory planning
PublikacjaA decade of experience in implementation of numerous urban modernization projects in Poland resulted in a lively debate on socialization of the planning process, in which the matter of the public space quality has become the center of gravity. In those years, transformation from the classic administrative model of „bureaucracy planning” to the model of „management planning” has not been complete. The socialist primacy of the public...

Discouraging Traffic Remapping Attacks in Local Ad Hoc Networks
PublikacjaQuality of Service (QoS) is usually provided in ad hoc networks using a class-based approach which, without dedicated security measures in place, paves the way to various abuses by selfish stations. Such actions include traffic remapping attacks (TRAs), which consist in claiming a higher traffic priority, i.e., false designation of the intrinsic traffic class so that it can be mapped onto a higher-priority class. In practice, TRAs...

ISSUES OF ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF ELECTRIC ENERGY GENERATION IN A FLOATING POWER PLANT
PublikacjaThis article presents basic dependences for conducting a technical and economic analysis related with investment projects. It describes a combined system of a compression ignition engine and a steam turbine, whose aim, when placed on a floating platform, is to generate electric energy in the so-called distributed generation system. Such a system involves a reciprocating internal combustion engine and a connected steam turbine system...

Performance of LSP preemption methods in different MPLS networks
PublikacjaPreemption in Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is an optional traffic engineering technique used to create a new path of high priority when there is not enough bandwidth available. In such case the path is admitted by removing one or more previously allocated paths of lower priority. As there are usually many possible sets of low priority paths which can be selected, a preemption algorithm is being started to select the best...

At the same time, advances in design of mobile electronic devices have allowed them to reach utility level comparable to stationary, desktop computers, while still retaining their mobility advantage. Following this trend multiple extensions...

Robustness in Compressed Neural Networks for Object Detection
PublikacjaModel compression techniques allow to significantly reduce the computational cost associated with data processing by deep neural networks with only a minor decrease in average accuracy. Simultaneously, reducing the model size may have a large effect on noisy cases or objects belonging to less frequent classes. It is a crucial problem from the perspective of the models' safety, especially for object detection in the autonomous driving...

A new approach to design of weather disruption-tolerant wireless mesh networks
PublikacjaWireless Mesh Networks, offering transmission rates of 1–10 Gb/s per a millimeter-wave link (utilizing the 71–86 GHz band) seem to be a promising alternative to fiber optic backbone metropolitan area networks because of significantly lower costs of deployment and maintenance. However, despite providing high transmission rates in good weather conditions, high-frequency wireless links are very susceptible to weather disruptions....

Selected Technical Issues of Deep Neural Networks for Image Classification Purposes
PublikacjaIn recent years, deep learning and especially Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have obtained amazing performance on a variety of problems, in particular in classification or pattern recognition. Among many kinds of DNNs, the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are most commonly used. However, due to their complexity, there are many problems related but not limited to optimizing network parameters, avoiding overfitting and ensuring good...

Diffusion equations with spatially dependent coefficients and fractal Cauer-type networks

It is proved that for a finite differences discretization...

Methodology for implementing power plant efficiency standards for power generation: potential emission reduction
PublikacjaSome methods of generating power such as power generation through coal, natural gas, oil result in inevitable emissions of greenhouse gases. While power generation is necessary due to its increasing demand, it is important for power companies to generate their power in an efcient manner to reduce its efect on the environment. One of the most efective ways of tackling inefciency issues is through the implementation of efciency standard....

Outlier detection method by using deep neural networks
PublikacjaDetecting outliers in the data set is quite important for building effective predictive models. Consistent prediction can not be made through models created with data sets containing outliers, or robust models can not be created. In such cases, it may be possible to exclude observations that are determined to be outlier from the data set, or to assign less weight to these points of observation than to other points of observation....

This dissertation is focused on four problems in recommender systems domain. The first one is context-awareness, i.e. how to obtain relevant contextual information, how to model user preferences in a context and use them to make predictions. The second one is multi-domain recommendation, which aim at suggesting...

Measurements of transmission properties of Acoustic Communication Channels
PublikacjaTough transmission properties of shallow water acoustic channels (SWAC) highly limit the use of underwater acoustic communication (UAC) systems. An adaptive matching of modulation and signaling schemes to instantaneous channel conditions is needed for reliabledata communications. On thermal stability of piezo-flexomagnetic microbeams considering different temperature distributions
PublikacjaBy relying on the Euler–Bernoulli beam model and energy variational formula, we indicate critical temperature causes in the buckling of piezo-flexomagnetic microscale beams. The corresponding size-dependent approach is underlying as a second strain gradient theory. Small deformations of elastic solids are assessed, and the mathematical discussion is linear. Regardless of the pyromagnetic effects, the thermal loading of the thermal...

A Centralized Reputation System for MANETs Based on Observed Path Performance
PublikacjaA reputation system for MANETs is described that attempts to deduce nodal trustworthiness (forwarding behaviour) from observed end-to-end path performance. The trustworthiness deduction algorithm produces interval estimates and works well if node misbehaviour is not selec-tive with respect to traversing paths. Nodal reputation levels are next calculated in the spirit of generous tit-for-tat so as to best reflect momentary nodal...
