Combined spline wavelet decomposition for 3d seafloor imaging from multibeam sonar echoes
PublikacjaThe paper proposes combined spline-wavelet approach to the raw echoes seaflor imaging from Multibeam Sonar System (MBSS) records. Wavelet representation is closely related to image representation, due to its unique approximations properties. Splines have the best approximation properties among all known wavelets of a given order, so they are best suited for approximating of smooth seafloor surface. Additionaly, wavelet bases have...

Detection of the acoustic interferences during AFM operation
Dane BadawczeAtomic force microscopy is a particularly complicated surface imaging technique due to the large number of factors that affect the quality of the resulting images. They are obviously difficult and sometimes even impossible to control at the same time. One of such factors may even be the seismological location of the building or the influence of mechanical...

Stress Detection of Children With ASD Using Physiological Signals
PublikacjaThis paper proposes a physiological signal-based stress detection approach for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to be used in social and assistive robot inter- vention. Electrodermal activity (EDA) and blood volume pulse (BVP) signals are collected with an E4 smart wristband from children with ASD in different countries. The peak count and signal amplitude features are derived from EDA signal and used in order to detect...

Application of ANN and PCA to two-phase flow evaluation using radioisotopes
PublikacjaIn the two-phase flow measurements a method involving the absorption of gamma radiation can be applied among others. Analysis of the signals from the scintillation probes can be used to determine the number of flow parameters and to recognize flow structure. Three types of flow regimes as plug, bubble, and transitional plug – bubble flows were considered in this work. The article shows how features of the signals in the time and...

Topological-numerical analysis of a two-dimensional discrete neuron model
PublikacjaWe conduct computer-assisted analysis of a two-dimensional model of a neuron introduced by Chialvo in 1995 [Chaos, Solitons Fractals 5, 461–479]. We apply the method of rigorous analysis of global dynamics based on a set-oriented topological approach, introduced by Arai et al. in 2009 [SIAM J. Appl. Dyn. Syst. 8, 757–789] and improved and expanded afterward. Additionally, we introduce a new algorithm to analyze the return times...

Molecular dynamics simulations of the growth of poly (chloro-para-xylylene) films.
PublikacjaParylene C, poly(chloro-para-xylylene) is the most widely used member of the parylene family due to its excellent chemical and physical properties. In this work we analyzed the formation of the parylene C film using molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics methods. A five unit chain is necessary to create a stable hydrophobic cluster and to adhere to a covered surface. Two scenarios were deemed to take place. The obtained results...

Loudness Scaling Tests in Hearing Problems Detection
PublikacjaThe number of people using portable audio players has increased significantly over the recent years. This implies the rise in the number of people having hearing loss problems. Therefore, there is a need to find appropriate procedures that simplify the process of the hearing problem detection. Investigations performed show that audiometric tests may not be sufficient to assess hearing in young people. Contrarily, the obtained results...

Optimizing of target detection and tracking processes realized on consoles of passive sonar with linear towed antenna
PublikacjaThe long-range passive towed sonar was first modernised a few years ago. Building on operator experience over that period, a concept was developed of optimising the tasks performed by sonar operators, and improving forms of imaging to inform about object detection and support object tracking. The concept was implemented and successfully tested during ships’ manoeuvres. The optimisation of operator tasks was designed to keep listening...

Experimental test of nonclassicality with arbitrarily low detection efficiency
PublikacjaWe theoretically introduce and experimentally demonstrate the realization of a nonclassicality test that allows for arbitrarily low detection efficiency without invoking an extra assumption of independence of the devices. Our test and its implementation is set in a prepare-and-measure scenario with an upper limit on the classical communication capacity of the channel through which the systems are communicated. The essence for our...

Construction of a picewise-linear classifier by applaing discriminant analysis to decision tree induction

On the necessity of experimental verification of numerical results in biomedical applications
PublikacjaPorous structures made of metal or biopolymers with a structure similar in shape and mechanical properties to human bone can be easily produced by stereolitography techniques, e.g. selective laser melting (SLM). Numerical techniques, like finite element method (FEM) have great potential in testing new, even the most sophisticated designs, according to their mechanical properties, i.e. strength or stiffness. However, due to different...

The importance of the shape of the protein–water interface of a kinesin motor domain for dynamics of the surface atoms of the protein
PublikacjaA single kinesin motor domain immersed in water has been investigated using molecular dynamics. It has been found that local properties of water in the solvation shell change along with the nature of the neighboring protein surface. However, a detailed analysis leads to the conclusion that the geometrical features of hydrogen bonds and overall structure of kinesin hydration water are not very different from bulk water. The local...

In this paper, we address the problem of automatic cerebral microbleeds (CMB) detection in magnetic resonance images. It is challenging due to difficulty in distinguishing a true CMB from its mimics, however, if successfully solved it would streamline the radiologists work. To deal with this complex three-dimensional...
