Buckling of braced frames
PublikacjaIn this paper the classical Winter model, developed originally for columns is applied for frame structures and compared with the results of parametric study of frame with bracing. Sensitivity analysis of critical loads of frame due to bracing stiffness is carried out and the threshold bracing stiffness for full bracing is found. In the non-linear statical analysis the forces in bracings are calculated.

Application of Intelligent Conversational Agents in E-learing Environments
PublikacjaThe paper concerns intelligent tutoring systems and concentrates on apliaction of virtual mentors in distance learning environments. Different educational agent types are described. The prototype of an agent developed at Gdansk University of Technology is also presented, as well as its internal representation and construction. Benefits of virtual mentors applied in distance learning are also pointed out.

PublikacjaThe article covers selected issues related to the share of hydroelectric power in the process of rebuilding the power system after black-out and voltage control during that process. Selected results of measurements made during the creation of the transmission chain for the need to start a block of a thermal power plant from a hydroelectric power plant were presented.

Comparison of properties of the new electro-mechanical model and circumferential model of the inductive-dynamic drive
PublikacjaThe article presents a new electromechanical model of inductive-dynamic drive. The model is implemented in two environments: Maxwell for analyzing electrodynamic phenomena including moving of the disc and Ansys which allows for stress analysis on the basis of the volume forces imported from Maxwell. Additionally, a model validation by comparing with the existing circumferential model was carried out.

Application of multistage treatment wetlands as a buffer for effluent from Anammox treatment for reject water from centrifugation
PublikacjaAccording to the newest knowledge concerning TW technology multistage treatment wetland could be easily applied for ensuring stable and low concentration of biogenic compounds form the effluent of SBR reactor (with nitritation/annamox process) for treatment of digested sludge dewatering in side stream. The working condition and optimising of such MTW will be the issue of carried out investigation.

Case studies of resonance phenomena in high voltage overhead power lines with shunt reactors
PublikacjaMisguided design of the towers of power transmission lines can lead to serious problems such as voltage asymmetry, overvoltages, electric arc extinction difficulties or resonance – in case of double circuit line with shunt reactors. The paper points out those threats on example of 400 kV double circuit overhead transmission line with shunt reactors.

Effect of illumination on noise of silicon solar cells
PublikacjaTransport and noise properties of silicon solar cells in darkness and under illumination have been studied. The measurements were carried out for both reverse and forward bias of the device. The changes in the sample behaviour are due to the variation of PN junction dynamic resistance and, also, the occurence of both 1/f and generation-recombination noise components

Analysis of magnetic field inside thin-layer ferromagnetic objects
PublikacjaResults of the numerical analysis of the magnetic field inside an infinitely long, thin-layer ferromagnetic pipe with and without a barrier were presented in this paper. Two wires with current symmetrically placed on two sides of the pipe are the sources of magnetic field. Proposition of the steam turbine governor structure modification
PublikacjaThere is considered the steam turbine governor operation during defense and restoration of the power system. It points out weaknesses of currently used governor structures. The new controller is proposed, that takes advantages of those curently used. The new controller allows for more effective control of the turbine in emergency situations, at frequencies much different from the nominal value.

Simulation of Residence Time Distribution and Mixing in Reactors with Recirculation Using 2D Approach
PublikacjaIn this paper, we propose a 2D approach in order to create a mathematical model for the determination of the residence time distribution for a flow reactor with recirculation. Apart from characterizing the functional residence time distribution, this model can help improve the operation of the reactor at the design stage. Assessment of hydrogenation of deposited metal of P 62 MR covered electrodes
PublikacjaThe determination of diffusible hydrogen content in deposited metal of P 62 MR covered electrodes for manual metal arc welding by mercury method was carried out. The test results indicate that covered electrodes 62 P MR grade generate a mean of 4.02 ml/100g of diffusible hydrogen in deposited metal, which is consistent with H5 class.

PublikacjaA method of railway track geometrical layout design, based on application of cubic C-Bezier curves for describing the layout curvature is presented in the article. Purely quantum superadditivity of classical capacities of quantum multiple access channels
PublikacjaWe are studying classical capacities of quantum memoryless multiaccess channels in geometric terms and we are revealing a break of additivity of the Holevo-like capacity. This effect is a purely quantum mechanical one, since, as we point out, the capacity regions of all classical memoryless multiaccess channels are additive. It is the first such effect revealed in the field of classical information transmission via quantum channels.

Influence of accelerometer signal pre-processing and classification method on human activity recognition
PublikacjaA study of data pre-processing influence on accelerometer-based human activity recognition algorithms is presented. The frequency band used to filter-out the accelerometer signals and the number of accelerometers involved were considered in terms of their influence on the recognition accuracy. In the test four methods of classification were used: support vector machine, decision trees, neural network, k-nearest neighbor.

THE INFLUENCE OF PHASE SHIFTERS ON THE VOLTAGE STABILITY OF CONNECTED POWER SYSTEMS
PublikacjaThe paper presents the results of simulation tests of connected power systems in which phase shifters were installed on cross-border links. The analysis was carried out in terms of assessing the impact of shifters on node voltage stability. Individual systems were characterized by different balance of active power: deficit or excess. Using GPUs for Parallel Stencil Computations in Relativistic Hydrodynamic Simulation
PublikacjaThis paper explores the possibilities of using a GPU for complex 3D finite difference computation. We propose a new approach to this topic using surface memory and compare it with 3D stencil computations carried out via shared memory, which is currently considered to be the best approach. The case study was performed for the extensive computation of collisions between heavy nuclei in terms of relativistic hydrodynamics.
