Estimation of the minimal number of periodic points for smooth self-maps of odd dimensional real projective spaces
PublicationLet f be a smooth self-map of a closed connected manifold of dimension m⩾3. The authors introduced in [G. Graff, J. Jezierski, Minimizing the number of periodic points for smooth maps. Non-simply connected case, Topology Appl. 158 (3) (2011) 276-290] the topological invariant NJD_r[f], where r is a fixed natural number, which is equal to the minimal number of r-periodic points in the smooth homotopy class of f. Derivation of the scaling laws used in geotechnical centrifuge modelling-application of dimensional analysis and Buckingham Π theorem
PublicationGeotechnical centrifuge modelling has been a world-wide used technology in physical tests. In this paper a derivation of scaling laws by dimensional analysis for the centrifugal modelling is presented. Basic principles of centrifuge modelling are described. Scaling laws for slow events like consolidation and fast events like dynamic loads are shown. The differences in scale factors for both processes are noticed. The aim of this...

Two- and three-dimensional elastic networks with rigid junctions: modeling within the theory of micropolar shells and solids
PublicationFor two- and three-dimensional elastic structures made of families of flexible elastic fibers undergoing finite deformations, we propose homogenized models within the micropolar elasticity. Here we restrict ourselves to networks with rigid connections between fibers. In other words, we assume that the fibers keep their orthogonality during deformation. Starting from a fiber as the basic structured element modeled by the Cosserat...

It has been demonstrated that with a knowledge of temperature distributions, the NRP enables the reconstruction of velocity fields by solving the Navier-Stokes...

Examples of numerical simulations of two-dimensional unsaturated flow with VS2DI code using different interblock conductivity averaging schemes
PublicationFlow in unsaturated porous media is commonly described by the Richards equation. This equation is strongly nonlinear due to interrelationships between water pressure head (negative in unsaturated conditions), water content and hydraulic conductivity. The accuracy of numerical solution of the Richards equation often depends on the method used to estimate average hydraulic conductivity between neighboring nodes or cells of the numerical...
