Airborne and mobile laser scanning in measurements of sea cliffs on the southern Baltic
PublicationMeasurements of sea cliffs performed using periodic surveying based on laser scanning is currently one of the fastest and most accurate solutions. Supported with the technology of satellite measurements using GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) positioning and photographic measurements with the use of aerial vehicle, they enable an effective monitoring of the sea cliffs affected by the erosion. In case of the coast of southern...

Coastal Cliffs Monitoring and Prediction of Displacements Using Terrestial Laser Scanning
PublicationCoastal cliffs are very sensitive to degradation caused by erosion and abrasion. Thus, it is very important to monitor susceptibility of the cliffs in terms of slope angles and ground fall resulting from vertical morphology of the cliffs. The results could be used for example to establish the boundaries of the safe investments zone or retreat infrastructure buildings in case of real threat such as degradation of the objects of...

An improvement of body surface area formulas using the 3D scanning technique
PublicationObjectives: Body surface area (BSA) is one of the major parameters used in several medical fields. However, there are concerns raised about its usefulness, mostly due to the ambiguity of its estimation. Material and Methods: Authors have conducted a voluntary study to investigate BSA distribution and estimation in a group of 179 adult people of various sex, age, and physique. Here, there is provided an extended analysis of the...

A new approach of coastal cliff monitoring using Mobile Laser Scanning
PublicationThe article proposes a new approach of coastal cliff monitoring which bases on a new comprehensive monitoring system, being a combination of mobile scanning from the sea with the geotechnical stability analysis. Mobile laser scanning is an innovative solution for 3D data collection which allows the monitored object geometry to be precisely measured, thus providing opportunities for series of analyses contributing to the development...

Using terrestrial laser scanning in inventorying of a hybrid constructed wetland system
PublicationThe goal of this paper was to evaluate the possibility of using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) for inventorying of a hybrid constructed wetland (CW) wastewater treatment plant. The object under study was a turtle-shaped system built in 2015 in Eastern Poland. Its main purpose is the treatment of wastewater from theMuseumand Education Centre of Polesie National Park. The study showed that the CW system had been built in compliance...

Application of 3D Whole Body Scanning in Research on Human Body Surface Area
PublicationHuman body surface area (BSA) is one of the major parameters used in several medical fields. Its heterogeneity caused by individual human characteristics sustains a many-decades-long research on the matter. Today’s technology allows to create exact body models in mere seconds. However, an extensive research that includes scanning people with major disfigurements or people suffering from diseases, which often prevent their mobility,...

Stability Assessment of Coastal Cliffs Incorporating Laser Scanning Technology and a Numerical Analysis
PublicationWe investigated the cli coast in Jastrzebia Gora, Poland. The measurements that were taken between 2014 and 2018 by applying terrestrial, mobile, and airborne laser scanning describe a huge geometric modification involving dislocations in a 2.5 m range. Dierential maps and a volumetric change analysis made it possible to identify the most deformed cli’s location. Part of the monitoring of coastal change involved the measurement...

Self-assembled concentric stripes of diamond particles by a pinning-depinning mechanism
PublicationWe describe the novel mechanism of spontaneous formation of the concentric stripe patterns of microdiamonds via gradual solvent evaporation from a suspension confined in a teardrop well. The self-organized patterns exhibit a series of arcs with regular spacings varying between hundreds of micrometers and millimeters. They result from an interplay between the directional forced circulation of the solvent and a stick-slip movement...

Sub-regional service centres in reality and regional planning in Poland = Podregionalne osrodki obsługi w sferze realnej i planowaniu regionalnym w Polsce
PublicationSub-regional centres are defined as towns where the services of the sub-regional level are concentrated. In Poland these are such services that can be located in several towns in a voivodeship (region), but not in every capital of a poviat (county). The transformation of civilization has influenced changes in Christaller’s model of settlement network, but re-gularities are still valid. Models derived from Christaller's Central...
