A novel architecture for e-learning knowledge assessment systems
PublikacjaIn this paper we propose a novel e-learning system, dedicated strictly to knowledge assessment tasks. In its functioning it utilizes web-based technologies, but its design differs radically from currently popular e-learning solutions which rely mostly on thin-client architecture. Our research proved that such architecture, while well suited for didactic content distribution systems is ill-suited for knowledge assessment products....

Assessment of codes recommendations for the evaluation of the seismic gap of buildings founded on different soil types
PublikacjaSeveral equations have been proposed in the literature to evaluate the seismic gap preventing earthquake-induced structural pounding, such as the ones based on the absolute sum of the peak displacements (ABS), the square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS), the double difference method (DDC), Australian code and the approach proposed by Naderpour et al. Multistage generalized adaptive notch filter with improved accuracy
PublikacjaGeneralized adaptive notch filters (GANFs) are estimators of coefficients of quasi-periodically time-varying systems. Current state of the art GANFs can deliver highly accurate estimates of system variations’ frequency, but underperform in terms of accuracy of the coefficient estimates. The paper proposes a novel multistage GANF with accuracy improved in this aspect. The processing pipeline consists of three stages. The preliminary...

Automatic Optimization Of Adaptive Notch Filter’s Frequency Tracking
PublikacjaEstimation of instantaneous frequency of narrowband com- plex sinusoids is often performed using lightweight algo- rithms called adaptive notch filters. However, to reach high performance, these algorithms require careful tuning. The paper proposes a novel self-tuning layer for a recently intr o- ducedadaptive notch filtering algorithm. Analysis shows th at, under Gaussian random-walk type assumptions, the resultin g solution converges...

The use of RP-HPLC–Q-TOF–MS as a powerful tool for wastewater composition profiling and selection of water pollution marker specific to wastewater contamination
PublikacjaLimited drinking water resources and water pollution are one of the main worldwide problems. To reduce the consumption of fresh water resources, the use of treated wastewater has been proposed. The farmlands have been irrigated with wastewater for centuries, but the composition of used sewage has changed over the years. Recent research has revealed the presence of hundreds of new organic contaminants in many environmental waters,...

Relicts of the 16th-century cellar by the St Mary's Church in Gdansk / Relikty piwnicy z XVI w. przy kościele Wniebowzięcia NMP w Gdańsku
PublikacjaSaint Mary’s church in Gdańsk, one of the largest brick Gothic temples in the World, has got no external chapels – except the House of Councils. Its architectural form, however, is not the result of implementation of one project, but realization of a few transforming concepts. The discovery of the relicts of the 16 th century cellars, located in the corner of the transept and the northern aisle, gives an idea of the process...

Moving Towards Competence in Teaching Architecture: The Relationship of Research and Design in Academia
PublikacjaArchitecture is truly a profession of public trust requiring special care at all stages in academic education. European educational reforms initiated by the 1999 Bologna Process affected architecture education, and shifted the role of research. The number of doctoral programs increased, so the involvement of PhD students in teaching also expanded. This study aims to identify how these changes affect quality in architecture education....

On adaptive covariance and spectrum estimation of locally stationary multivariate processes
PublikacjaWhen estimating the correlation/spectral structure of a locally stationary process, one has to make two important decisions. First, one should choose the so-called estimation bandwidth, inversely proportional to the effective width of the local analysis window, in the way that complies with the degree of signal nonstationarity. Too small bandwidth may result in an excessive estimation bias, while too large bandwidth may cause excessive...
