Endothelial dysfunction due to eNOS uncoupling: molecular mechanisms as potential therapeutic targets
PublicationNitric oxide (NO) is one of the most important molecules released by endothelial cells, and its antiatherogenic properties support cardiovascular homeostasis. Diminished NO bioavailability is a common hallmark of endothelial dysfunction underlying the patho‑ genesis of the cardiovascular disease. Vascular NO is synthesized by endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) from the substrate L‑arginine (L‑Arg), with tetrahydrobiopterin...

Triazoloacridone C-1305 impairs XBP1 splicing by acting as a potential IRE1α endoribonuclease inhibitor
PublicationInositol requiring enzyme 1 alpha (IRE1α) is one of three signaling sensors in the unfolding protein response (UPR) that alleviates endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in cells and functions to promote cell survival. During conditions of irrevocable stress, proapoptotic gene expression is induced to promote cell death. One of the three signaling stressors, IRE1α is an serine/threonine-protein kinase/endoribonuclease (RNase) that...

Combined anticancer therapy with imidazoacridinone analogue C‐1305 and paclitaxel in human lung and colon cancer xenografts—Modulation of tumour angiogenesis
PublicationThe acridanone derivative 5-dimethylaminopropylamino- 8- hydroxytriazoloacridinone (C-1305) has been described as a potent inhibitor of cancer cell growth. Its mechanism of action in in vitro conditions was attributed, among others, to its ability to bind and stabilize the microtubule network and subsequently exhibit its tumour- suppressive effects in synergy with paclitaxel (PTX). Therefore, the objective of the present study...

Influence of Diosmin Treatment on the Level of Oxidative Stress Markers in Patients with Chronic Venous Insufficiency
PublicationOxidative stress plays an important role in the pathophysiology of many human disorders, while antioxidants prevent the development of various adverse symptoms. Diosmin is a natural flavonoid applied in vascular system disorders, especially in chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), and it plays a significant part in the alleviation of CVI symptoms. Due to antioxidant activity, it also has the ability to scavenge the oxygen free radicals...

Phase transition of a dimorphic fungus Penicillium marneffei
PublicationPenicillium marneffei is a pathogenic fungus that afflicts immunocompromised individuals who live or travel in Southeast Asia. This species is unique, because it is the only dimorphic member of the genus Penicillium. Dimorphism results from a process, termed phase transition, which is regulated by temperature of incubation. The Impact of Isocyanate Index and Filler Functionalities on the Performance of Flexible Foamed Polyurethane/Ground Tire Rubber Composites
PublicationThe structure and performance of polyurethane (PU) foams are strongly driven by the stoichiometry of the polyaddition reaction, quantitatively described by the isocyanate index.
