PublikacjaThe problems faced by designers of micro-turbines are connected with a very small volume flow rate of working media which leads to small blades’ height and high rotor speed. In the case of gas turbines this limitation can be overcome by the application of a closed cycle with very low pressure at the compressor inlet (lower than atmospheric pressure). In this way we may apply a micro gas turbine unit of accepted efficiency to work...

Domestic ORC micro-CHP combined with a commercial gas boiler
PublikacjaThe chapter presents the results of experimental studies conducted during the launch of the first in Poland demonstration prototype of the micro ORC coupled to a domestic gas boiler. The accomplished studies indicated the possibility for the ORC module to work with such boiler (autonomous source of heat) with a prototype single-stage axial micro turbine as the expansion machine. Confirmation of that fact has been delineated in...

Knowledge management implementation in small and micro KIBS : A categorization
Publikacjahe main goal of the paper is to provide a statistical categorization of small and micro knowledge-intensive business service (KIBS) companies, based on their knowledge management (KM) attitude. Since knowledge is the main production factor and output of these companies, it is essential to achieve a better understanding of how they manage this resource. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on a sample of Polish small and micro...

Description Logic As A Common Software Engineering Artifacts Language
PublikacjaDescription logic is proposed as a powerful language able to support chosen software engineering process tasks like: requirements engineering, software architecture definition, software design and configuration management. To do this there is presented a correspondence between description logic and UML. Description logic based integrated software engineering process framework is proposed which owing to automatic knowledge inferring...

Engineering Challenges in the Design of Cochlear Implants
PublikacjaHearing aids such as cochlear implants have been used by both adults and children for a long time. In addition, cochlear implants are used by patients who have severe hearing loss either by birth or after an accident. This paper aims to investigate the engineering challenges bounding the design of cochlear implants and present its possible solution...

Sound engineering as our commitment to its creators in Poland
PublikacjaSound engineering is an interdisciplinary and rapidly expanding domain. It covers many aspects, such as sound perception, studio and sound mastering technology, music information retrieval including content-based search systems and automatic music transcription frameworks, sound synthesis, sound restoration, electroacoustics, and other ones constituting multimedia technology. Moreover, machine learning methods applied to the topics...

Oversizing the photovoltaic generator capacity in a micro photovoltaic plant
PublikacjaA significant part of photovoltaic micro installations in Poland is characterized by photovoltaic generator oversizing in relation to the inverter. The idea of oversizing, however, still raises doubts among some plant owners. In the paper, the energy yield of installation with an oversized and not oversized photovoltaic generator is presented on selected examples, showing the legitimacy of oversizing.

Numerical FDM modelling of wave propagation in concrete structure
PublikacjaThe article presents application of finite difference method to damage detection and its size evaluation in concrete structure by elastic wave propagation method. The simulations of wave propagation in concrete structure were performed for six different damage scenarios. Damages were modelled as areas with changed material properties. Investigation focused on the influence of damage size on the energy of wave reflection. Presented...

Effect of Flow Normalization in Micro-Pin-Finned Heat Sink: Numerical Study
PublikacjaThe micro-pin-fin heat sink (MPFHS) is widely employed for the heat transfer enhancement of microchannel heat sinks. In the current paper, the effect of flow normalization on the thermohydraulic performance of micro-pin-finned heat sinks is studied numerically. Two geometries of MPFHSs, the conventional design micro-pin-fin heat sink (CD-MPFHS) with a uniform-width micro pin fin and the proposed design micro-pin-fin heat sink (PD-MPFHS)...

Wave transmission across surface interfaces in lattice structures
PublikacjaWithin the lattice dynamics formulation, we present an exact solution for anti-plane surface waves in a square lattice strip with a surface row of material particles of two types separated by a linear interface. The considered problem is a discrete analog of an elastic half-space with surface stresses modelled through the simplified Gurtin–Murdoch model, where we have an interfacial line separating areas with different surface...

Dynamic Execution of Engineering Processes in Cyber-Physical Systems of Systems Toolchains
PublikacjaEngineering tools support the process of creating, operating, maintaining, and evolving systems throughout their lifecycle. Toolchains are sequences of tools that build on each others' output during this procedure. The complete chain of tools itself may not even be recognized by the humans who utilize them, people may just recognize the right tool being used at the right place in time. Modern engineering processes, however, do...
