Turre cum capellis suis – identification of an earlier phase of the Holy Cross church at Tar – Stancija Blek (Tar-Vabriga – Torre-Abrega, Istria)
PublicationThe paper reports the results of the first campaign of excavations at the Church of the Holy Cross near Stancija Blek (Tar-Vabriga – Torre-Abrega municipality, Istria), which is close to the multiphase settlement of Old Tar. A trial trench behind the rear wall of the church and along its southern perimetral wall revealed an earlier building and one grave. Though the uncovered remains are scanty, several distinct architectural...

Dynamics of quantum entanglement
PublicationA model of discrete dynamics of entanglement of a bipartite quantum state is considered. It involves a global unitary dynamics of the system and periodic actions of local bistochastic or decaying channel. For initially pure states the decay of entanglement is accompanied by an increase of von Neumann entropy of the system. We observe and discuss revivals of entanglement due to unitary interaction of subsystems. For some mixed states...

Electrical properties of hybrid planar diode based on palladium phthalocyanine and titanium dioxide
PublicationThis work details experimental studies of a planar diode made of indium tin oxide/titanium dioxide/palladium phthalocyanine/gold. The rectification ratio of current was 105 at 1.5 V. The analysis of the electrical properties of the system was based on small signal complex capacitance spectra measured in the frequency range of 25 Hz-1 MHz at different values of bias. No depletion region at the TiO2/PdPc interface was observed. Forward...

Sparse vector autoregressive modeling of audio signals and its application to the elimination of impulsive disturbances
PublicationArchive audio files are often corrupted by impulsive disturbances, such as clicks, pops and record scratches. This paper presents a new method for elimination of impulsive disturbances from stereo audio signals. The proposed approach is based on a sparse vector autoregressive signal model, made up of two components: one taking care of short-term signal correlations, and the other one taking care of long-term correlations. The method...

Collaborative Data Acquisition and Learning Support
PublicationWith the constant development of neural networks, traditional algorithms relying on data structures lose their significance as more and more solutions are using AI rather than traditional algorithms. This in turn requires a lot of correctly annotated and informative data samples. In this paper, we propose a crowdsourcing based approach for data acquisition and tagging with support for Active Learning where the system acts as an...

The function of the sculpture in public space and its reception occupants of the city
PublicationSculpture has been with people for thousands of years. Its destiny, subject and scale have changed over the centuries. Public art, along with sculpture, began to appear in a new form (not only to commemorate important figures and events) only in the 1960s. This paper aims to answer what functions are currently performed by the sculptures located in a public space and how they are perceived by the inhabitants of the city.

Nodal cooperation equilibrium analysis in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks with a reputation system
PublicationMotivated by the concerns of cooperation security, this work examines selected principles of state-of-the-art reputation systems for multi-hop ad hoc networks and their impact upon optimal strategies for rational nodes. An analytic framework is proposed and used for identification of effective cooperation-enforcement schemes. It is pointed out that optimum rather than high reputation can be expected to be sought by rational nodes.

Active Suppression of Nonstationary Narrowband Acoustic Disturbances
PublicationIn this chapter, a new approach to active narrowband noise control is presented. Narrowband acoustic noise may be generated, among others, by rotating parts of electro-mechanical devices, such as motors, turbines, compressors, or fans. Active noise control involves the generation of “antinoise”, i.e., the generation of a sound that has the same amplitude, but the opposite phase, as the unwanted noise, which causes them to interfere...

High Dynamic Range Microwave Displacement and Rotation Sensors Based on the Phase of Transmission in Groove Gap Waveguide Technology
PublicationThis research is focused on the design and realization of displacement sensors in gap waveguide technology. It is shown that with a small but fundamental change in the structure of a conventional gap waveguide, a linear displacement can be sensed. To this end, a unique feature of gap waveguides, i.e. the fact that no electrical connection between the top and bottom parts of the gap waveguide is required, is used. It is further shown...

Reasoning with Projection in Multimodular Description Logics Knowledge Bases
PublicationWe present an approach to reasoning with projection, i.e. reasoning in which it is possible to focus on a selected part of knowledge (by neglecting some non-interesting fragments). Projection is most useful for modular knowledge bases in which only parts of knowledge have to be exchanged or imported to other modules. In this paper we present an optimized method of reasoning over results of projection. The tests indicate that the...

Normal stress distribution in built‑up cold‑formed column in relation to interconnecting bolt spacing
PublicationIn order to increase a stiffness of cold-formed steel (CFS) elements it is practised to built-up the cross-section. In the analysed case, a main element is strengthened by adding extra chord in contact partially along the column. This additional chord acts as a longitudinal stiffener connected with the main section by series of bolts. Authors check whether rules applied over the years, for hot-rolled elements, can be indiscriminately...

Comprehensive Enhancement of Prepolymer-Based Flexible Polyurethane Foams’ Performance by Introduction of Cost-Effective Waste-Based Ground Tire Rubber Particles
PublicationMaterial innovations in polyurethane (PU) foams should ideally combine performance enhancement, environmental impact limitation, and cost reduction. These goals can be achieved by applying recycled or waste-based materials without broader industrial applications, implicating their low price. Herein, from 5 to 20 parts by weight of ground tire rubber (GTR) particles originated from the recycling of postconsumer car tires were incorporated...

Bounds on the Cover Time of Parallel Rotor Walks
PublicationThe rotor-router mechanism was introduced as a deterministic alternative to the random walk in undirected graphs. In this model, a set of k identical walkers is deployed in parallel, starting from a chosen subset of nodes, and moving around the graph in synchronous steps. During the process, each node maintains a cyclic ordering of its outgoing arcs, and successively propagates walkers which visit it along its outgoing arcs in...

Load introduction to composite columns revisited—Significance of force allocation and shear connection stiffness
PublicationThe AISC 360-16 Specification recommends that the design shear force between parts of a composite column in the load introduction area shall be calculated based on the force allocation at ultimate limit state. Applicability of this straightforward method to the load levels that usually arise in slender composite columns is questionable, as this capacity-based force allocation is only true when the axial force is equal to the plastic...

Path integrals formulations leading to propagator evaluation for coupled linear physics in large geometric models
PublicationReformulating linear physics using second kind Fredholm equations is very standard practice. One of the straightforward consequences is that the resulting integrals can be expanded (when the Neumann expansion converges) and probabilized, leading to path statistics and Monte Carlo estimations. An essential feature of these algorithms is that they also allow to estimate propagators for all types of sources, including initial conditions....
