To donate or not to donate? Future healthcare professionals’ opinions on biobanking of human biological material for research purposes
PublicationBackground Over the last few decades biobanks have been recognised as institutions that may revolutionisebiomedical research and the development of personalised medicine. Poland, however, still lacks clear regulationsregarding the running of biobanks and the conducting of biomedical research. While the awareness of the generalpublic regarding biobanks is low, healthcare professions and medical students also...

Influence of e-beam irradiation on poly(aliphatic/aromatic-ester) multiblock copolymers used as biomaterials
PublicationThe use of polymers became more relevant in medical applications for the versatility in processing and enhanced material properties of polymers. In order to be suitable as a biomaterial, it is of medical importance that these polymers are biocompatible and do not elicit negative responses from the body after implantation. Furthermore during the course of usage under load-bearing conditions, these biomaterials must sustain dynamical...

Trustworthy Applications of ML Algorithms in Medicine - Discussion and Preliminary Results for a Problem of Small Vessels Disease Diagnosis.
PublicationML algorithms are very effective tools for medical data analyzing, especially at image recognition. Although they cannot be considered as a stand-alone diagnostic tool, because it is a black-box, it can certainly be a medical support that minimize negative effect of human-factors. In high-risk domains, not only the correct diagnosis is important, but also the reasoning behind it. Therefore, it is important to focus on trustworthiness...

Adaptation of radar software to work with ambiguous distance measurement
PublicationA software extension for radar stations designed to work in the low-PRF mode that allows them to correctly measure range to targets outside of their instrumented range, is proposed. The solution does not require substantial modifications of the radar software. Additionally, we describe tools that allow one to simulate the output of a low-PRF radar observing targets that are outside its instrumented range. The proposed approach...

Self-tuning adaptive frequency tracker
PublicationAn automatic gain tuning algorithm is proposed for a recently introduced adaptive notch filter. Theoretical analysis and simulations show that, under Gaussian random-walk type assumptions, the proposed extension is capable of adjusting adaptation gains of the filter so as to minimize the mean-squared frequency tracking error without prior knowledge of the true frequency trajectory. A simplified one degree of freedom version of...

The proposed cancellation scheme is a nontrivial extension of the SONIC (self-optimizing narrowband interference canceller) algorithm, developed earlier for single-input, single-output plants. In the important benchmark case - for disturbances with randomwalk-type amplitude...

Scheduling of unit-length jobs with cubic incompatibility graphs on three uniform machines
PublicationWe consider the problem of scheduling n identical jobs on 3 uniform machines with speeds s1, s2, and s3 to minimize the schedule length. We assume that jobs are subject to some kind of mutual exclusion constraints, modeled by a cubic incompatibility graph. We how that if the graph is 2-chromatic then the problem can be solved in O(n^2) time. If the graph is 3-chromatic, the problem becomes NP-hard even if s1>s2=s3.
