Vessel Energy Requirement Prediction from Acceleration Stage Towing Tests on Scale Models
PublikacjaOne of the most crucial tasks for naval architects is computing the energy required to meet the ship’s operational needs. When predicting a ship’s energy requirements, a series of hull resistance tests on a scale model vessel is carried out in constant speed stages, while the acceleration stage measurements are ignored. Another important factor in seakeeping analysis is the ship’s hydrodynamic added mass. The second law of dynamics...

Recent advances in hydrodynamic cavitation-based pretreatments of lignocellulosic biomass for valorization
PublikacjaRecently, the hydrodynamic cavitation (HC)-based pretreatment has shown high effectiveness in laboratories and even in industrial productions for conversion of lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) into value-added products. The pretreatment capability derives from the extraordinary conditions of pressures at ∼500 bar, local hotspots with ∼5000 K, and oxidation (hydroxyl radicals) created by HC at room conditions. To promote this emerging...

Large Hydrodynamic Thrust Bearings and Their Application in Hydrogenerators
PublikacjaLarge hydrodynamic thrust bearings are the bearings which, due to hydrodynamic lubrication, allow large axial load to be transferred from a moving part (shaft) to the stationary part via a thin layer of the lubricant (usually oil), thus providing extremely low friction and practically no wear. Hydrogenerators with vertical shafts are the most important application of large thrust bearings. Main design and scientific problems of...
