Result of the 6-min walk test is an independent prognostic factor of surgically treated non-small-cell lung cancer
PublikacjaPathological tumour, node and metastasis (TNM) stage remains the most significant prognostic factor of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Meanwhile, age, gender, pulmonary function tests, the extent of surgical resection and the presence of concomitant diseases are commonly used to complete the prognostic profile of the patient with early stage of NSCLC. The aim of this study is to assess how the result of a 6-min walk test (6MWT)...

9-Cyano-10-methylacridinium hydrogen dinitrate
PublikacjaThe title compound, C15H11N2+·HN2O6−, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with four molecules in the unit cell. The planar 9-cyano-10-methylacridinium cations lie on crystallographic twofold axes and are arranged in layers, almost perpendicular to the ac plane, in such a way that neighbouring molecules are positioned in a `head-to-tail' manner. These cations and the hydrogen dinitrate anions are linked through C—H⋯O...

Ultrasonic spectroscopy of silicon single crystal
PublikacjaSpecimens of Si single crystals with different crystal orientation [100] and [110] were studied by the electro-ultrasonic spectroscopy (EUS) and Resonant Ultrasonic Spectroscopy (RUS). A silicon single crystal is an anisotropic crystal, so its properties are different in different directions in the material relative to the crystal orientation. EUS is based on interaction of two signals: electric AC signal and ultrasonic signal,...

Low-energy positron scattering from DNA nucleobases: the effects from permanent dipoles
PublikacjaAb initio quantum calculations for low-energy positron scattering from gas-phase isolated molecular nucleobases which are part of the DNA structure are presented and discussed over the range of 1 eV to 25 eV. The calculations report the integral cross sections (ICSs) and the momentum-transfer cross sections (MTCSs) for Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine. The calculations show very clearly the important role of the dominant...

Comparative molecular modelling of biologically active sterols
PublikacjaMembrane sterols are targets for a clinically important antifungal agent – amphotericin B. The relatively specific antifungal action of the drug is based on a stronger interaction of amphotericin B with fungal ergosterol than with mammalian cholesterol. Conformational space occupied by six sterols has been defined using the molecular dynamics method to establish if the conformational features correspond to the preferential interaction...

EU Enlargement and Labour Demand in the New Member States
PublikacjaResearch to date on labour market responses to EU integration has tended to concentrate on the labour markets of the 'old' EU members. But what effects has the integration of trade had on wages in the new member states? The following article attempts to answer this question using and empirical model of conditional labour demand.

Place Attachment and Collective Action Tendency
PublikacjaThree studies were carried out to examine how place attachment and collective action tendency are related and what role self-expansion and social interactions play in this relationship. In the first study (N = 156) we found that a more active form of attachment – place discovered – is a significant predictor of tendency to engage in collective action in favor of one’s neighborhood. In the second study (N = 197), we focused on...

Instantaneous impedance monitoring of synergistic effect between cavitation erosion and corrosion processes
PublikacjaThe most common method of determination of cavitation erosion resistance as well as the magnitude of erosion-corrosion synergistic interaction is based on the weight loss measurements. Nondestructive characterization of installations elements is in most cases impossible to perform. Also, such a measurement does not include local types of failure or alteration of operating conditions. There is an urge to elaborate a method for monitoring...
