Comparison of oil yield and quality obtained by different extraction procedures from salmon (Salmo salar) processing byproducts
PublicationThe content and composition of lipids in different byproducts (skins, heads, and backbones) from mechanically processed farmed Atlantic salmon were determined and compared with that obtained from wild salmon. Three different procedures were used to establish the optimal conditions of oil extraction (at high temperature −95°C, “cold” extraction at temperature not exceeding 15°C and enzyme assisted with Alcalase). “Cold” extraction...

PublicationAcid-soluble collagen (ASC) from the fish skin of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus), Salmon (Salmo salar) and Baltic cod (Gadus morhua) was extracted and characterized. The ASC extraction yield was 75%, 73% and 68%, respectively. The denaturation and melting temperatures of African catfish ASC (29.3°C and 100.0°C) were significantly higher than ASC of Salmon and Baltic cod (20.6°C and 90.5°C; 15.2°C and 86.7°C, respectively), assessed...

The effect of transglutaminase on the properties of salmon skin-gelatin films
PublicationCelem pracy była enzymatyczna modyfikacja folii otrzymanych z żelatyny rybnej. Źródłem żelatyny były surowe i wędzone skóry łososia. Stwierdzono, że czas żelowania roztworu żelatyny ulegał skróceniu w obecności transglutaminazy w badanym zakresie 0,1-0,2 mg/ml. Enzymatyczne modyfikacje prowadziły do obniżenia rozpuszczalności folii, jednakże w różnym stopniu zależnym od źródła białka. Obecność DTT lub cysteiny w mieszaninie reakcyjnej...

The influence of moderate pressure and subzero temperature on the shelf life of minced cod, salmon, pork and beef meat
PublicationThe effect of moderate pressure at subzero temperature on natural microflora of minced cod, salmony, pork and beef meat was studied. Pressure of 193 MPa at –20 °C caused reduction of total bacterial count in pork and beef meat by 1.1 and 0.6 log cycles, respectively, and by about 1.5 log cycles in fish meat. Under these conditions the psychrophilic and psychrotophic bacteria were below the detection limit (<10CFU/g of sample) in...

Designing Particle Kalman Filter for Dynamic Positioning
PublicationThe article presents a comparative analysis of two variants of the Particle Kalman Filter designed by using two different ship motion models. The first filter bases only on the kinematic model of the ship and can be used in many types of vehicles, regardless of the vehicle dynamics model. The input value to the filter is the noisy position of the ship. The second filter makes use of the kinematic and dynamic models of the moving...

The effect of high pressure at subzero temperature on proteins solubility, drip loss and texture of fish (cod and salmon) and mammal’s (pork and beef) meat
PublicationOne of the possibilities of using high pressure technique in inactivation of microorganism is conducting this process at subzero temperature. However, for its practical application in meat preservation the appropriate properties of meat should be kept. Therefore, the aim of this work was to examine the effect of pressure at subzero temperature (without freezing of water) on proteins and texture of mammal’s and cold-adapted fish...

Market knowledge and new product performance: the mediating effects of new product performance
PublicationMarket knowledge is recognised as an important predictor of new product performance, which existing studies have proven. However, a missing link in this relationship is creativity, and specifically, as a natural process in product innovation. This study aims to examine a model that includes two mediating mechanisms between market knowledge scope and two new product outcomes, respectively: a new product’s competitive advantage and...

Estimation of a Stochastic Burgers' Equation Using an Ensemble Kalman Filter
PublicationIn this work, we consider a difficult problem of state estimation of nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) based on uncertain measurements. The presented solution uses the method of lines (MoL), which allows us to discretize a stochastic partial differential equation in a spatial dimension and represent it as a system of coupled continuous-time ordinary stochastic differential equations (SDE). For such a system...

New Product Creativity Dimensions and Performance
PublicationA new product’s meaningfulness and novelty are recognized as two distinct and important dimensions. Thus, researchers started to investigate their impact on new product performance. However, researchers’ reports on the impact of novelty on performance are still mixed, and several issues need to be solved. One of these problems is comparing how strongly each of these dimensions affects the new product performance. The other is to...

Decoupled Kalman filter based identification of time-varying FIR systems
PublicationWhen system parameters vary at a fast rate, identification schemes based on model-free local estimation approaches do not yield satisfactory results. In cases like this, more sophisticated parameter tracking procedures must be used, based on explicit models of parameter variation (often referred to as hypermodels), either deterministic or stochastic. Kalman filter trackers, which belong to the second category, are seldom used in...

Domination-Related Parameters in Rooted Product Graphs
PublicationAbstract A set S of vertices of a graph G is a dominating set in G if every vertex outside of S is adjacent to at least one vertex belonging to S. A domination parameter of G is related to those sets of vertices of a graph satisfying some domination property together with other conditions on the vertices of G. Here, we investigate several domination-related parameters in rooted product graphs.
