Convenient synthesis of 3-phosphono-β-lactams through the cyclization ofN-alkenyl-phosphonoacetamides
PublicationOxidative cyclization through the treatment by the transition metals is convenientsynthetic tool with a great number of applications. In the most cases the result is the formationof C-C bond between generated radical and unsaturated part of the same or another molecule. As it was presented by Trogolo it is also suitable way to obtain 4-membered heterocyclicβ-lactamic ring[1]. In this communicate we want to present new application...

Badania empiryczne związane z ewolucją języków - wybrane zagadnienia
PublicationAlthough language evolution is an area in science yet to be developed, its foundations lay on empirical research. The aim of this article is to present three categories of ways to get empirical data on language evolution: observing language in laboratory, monitoring animal communication and analysing pidgins and creoles. The part of the paper about language in laboratory bases on English-language articles presenting the experiments...

Volunteerism in the last year as a moderator between empathy and altruistic social value orientation: An exploratory study
PublicationVolunteerism is a sustained prosocial activity, and young adults are one of the most important targets for organizations recruiting volunteers. Empathy and altruistic social value orientation measured by a decomposed game are dispositional traits that might foster engagement in volunteerism. Using a self-report online-based questionnaire study on two groups of young adults (aged 18-35, N = 224 non-volunteers and N = 178 volunteers...

A Simulation Model for Risk and Pricing Competition in the Retail Lending Market
PublicationWe propose a simulation model of the retail lending market with two types of agents: borrowers searching for low interest rates and lenders competing through risk-based pricing. We show that individual banks observe adverse selection, even if every lender applies the same pricing strategy and a credit scoring model of comparable discrimination power. Additionally, the model justifies the reverse-S shape of the response rate curve....

Wireless LAN with noncooperative anonymous stations: QOS provisioning via war of attrition
PublicationMAC-layer QoS provision necessitates an admission scheme to grant a requested QoS notwithstanding subse-quent requests. For an ad hoc WLAN with anonymous stations, we assume a degree of power awareness to propose a session- rather than frame-level bidding for bandwidth. Next we analyze the underlying Bayesian war of attrition game.

A remark on singular sets of vector bundle morphisms
PublicationIf characteristic classes for two vector bundles over the same base space do not coincide, then the bundles are not isomorphic. We give under rather common assumptions a lower bound on the topological dimension of the set of all points in the base over which a morphism between such bundles is not bijective. Moreover, we show that this set is topologically non-trivial.

THE INFLUENCE OF QUESTION SET ON STUDENT QUIZ RESULTS
PublicationThe advent of e-Learning tools allowing for automated online test grading will probably increase the frequency of using tests in technical education. The same tools may provide for measures of test question quality. By purposely crafting question sets, test grading may serve different goals. The paper contains examples and test study with score histograms.

Business processes implementation using agent systems
PublicationThis paper will show that some complex and repetitive actions performed in a company can be modelled for the sake of optimization and automaton. It is achieved by connecting business processes management and agent paradigms. Moreover it shows that organization structure can be mapped to distributed multi agent system. Finally it states that interorganization communication can be automated on the same basis as intra-organization...

Size-Reduction-Oriented Design of Compact CPW-Fed UWB Monopole Antenna
PublicationA structure and design optimization of compact CPW-fed UWB monopole antenna is presented. Explicit size reduction through constrained numerical optimization of all relevant geometry parameters of the structure leads to a very small footprint of only 321 mm2. At the same time, a very wide antenna bandwidth is achieved from 3.1 GHz to 17 GHz.

Percentage of the population over 65 in selected EU countries in 2006 and 2017
Open Research DataUntil the mid-1980s, Poland belonged to the group of countries with a high dynamics of population growth, reaching 0.9% annually. The average value of the population growth dynamics in the 1980s was 0.66%. From the beginning of this century, the growth rate has taken negative values and in the years 2000-2014 it amounted to an annual average of -0.03%.

Things You Might Not Know about the k-Nearest Neighbors Algorithm
PublicationRecommender Systems aim at suggesting potentially interesting items to a user. The most common kind of Recommender Systems is Collaborative Filtering which follows an intuition that users who liked the same things in the past, are more likely to be interested in the same things in the future. One of Collaborative Filtering methods is the k Nearest Neighbors algorithm which finds k users who are the most similar to an active user...

Brownian Motion in Optical Tweezers, a Comparison between MD Simulations and Experimental Data in the Ballistic Regime
PublicationThe four most popular water models in molecular dynamics were studied in large-scale simulations of Brownian motion of colloidal particles in optical tweezers and then compared with experimental measurements in the same time scale. We present the most direct comparison of colloidal polystyrene particle diffusion in molecular dynamics simulations and experimental data on the same time scales in the ballistic regime. The four most...

Quantifying Contextuality
PublicationContextuality is central to both the foundations of quantum theory and to the novel information processing tasks. Despite some recent proposals, it still faces a fundamental problem: how to quantify its presence? In this work, we provide a universal framework for quantifying contextuality. We conduct two complementary approaches: (i) the bottom-up approach, where we introduce a communication game, which grasps the phenomenon of...

Types of Markov Fields and Tilings
PublicationThe method of types is one of the most popular techniques in information theory and combinatorics. However, thus far the method has been mostly applied to one-dimensional Markov processes, and it has not been thoroughly studied for general Markov fields. Markov fields over a finite alphabet of size m ≥ 2 can be viewed as models for multi-dimensional systems with local interactions. The locality of these interactions is represented...

Burnout as a State: Random-Intercept Cross-Lagged Relationship Between Exhaustion and Disengagement in a 10-Day Study
PublicationBackground: Burnout has been traditionally seen as a chronic and stable state in response to prolonged stress. However, measures of momentary burnout are not well established, even though the within-person approach suggests that the symptoms of burnout may vary from day to day for the same employee. The aim of this study is to examine the daily inter- and intra-personal variability of the symptoms of burnout and the cross-lagged relationship...

PublicationThis article raises the issue of designing and adapting correctional facilities to the new perception of prisoners as well as comprehension of punishment. For research purposes, several European prisons which came into service over recent years were selected. A study of such facilities revealed design solutions that may significantly affect the process of rehabilitation for inmates and make such buildings an accepted part of society.

Drawing and painting studies of light and shadow based on the observation of a single object and interior (or architectural space) are a pretext to show the variability of light and its influence on the perception of form, color, space and building a mood. An important element of the task is to express the value and color differences within the same matter depending on the type of light,...

Bilateral Multi-Issue Negotiation Between Active Documents and Execution Devices
PublicationMobile document-agents are often in conflict with execution devices when attempting to perform activities of the business process they implement, since preferences of device owners may change depending on their current location and the actual class of the device in use. The paper proposes a bilateral negotiation mechanism based on a simple bargaining game that can effectively resolve such conflicts without any third party support.
