Softly Switched Robustly Feasible Model Predictive Control for Nonlinear Network Systems
PublicationIt is common that an efficient constrained plant operation under full range of disturbance inputs require meeting different sets of control objectives. This calls for application of model predictive controllers each of them being best fit into specific operating conditions. It further requires that not only designing robustly feasible model predictive controllers is needed to satisfy the real plant state/output constraints, but...

The structure of the Polish banking sector in 2004-2018
Open Research DataDynamic changes in the banking system in the 1990s contributed to the relative stability of the number of banks in all sectors (state-owned, private, cooperative) after 2004. The total number of banks (including credit institutions) has decreased since 2004 from 653 to 612 in 2018 - it should therefore be noted that in the analyzed period the Polish...

Globalized Knowledge-Based Simulation-Driven Antenna Miniaturization Using Domain-Confined Surrogates and Dimensionality Reduction
PublicationDesign of contemporary antenna systems encounters multifold challenges, one of which is a limited size. Compact antennas are indispensable for the new fields of application such as inter-net of things or 5G/6G mobile communication. Still, miniaturization generally undermines elec-trical and field performance. When attempted through numerical optimization, it turns into a constrained problem with costly constraints requiring electromagnetic...

Possible effects of the 1984 St. Clair River ice jam on bed changes
PublicationThis study examines the possible effect of the record ice jam of 1984 in the St. Clair River on river bed changes and conveyance. Numerical simulations were made to examine the flow and bed shear stresses during the jam formation and release periods. Simulation results indicate that the ice jam in the river did not cause a significant increase in bed shear stress compared to pre- and post-jam open water conditions. The insignificant...

Maturity Mismatch in the Polish Banking System and its Impact on the Economy
PublicationIn the article maturity mismatch in the Polish banking system is estimated based on the publicly available data. Then the impact on the economy is discussed. Based on Polish central bank’s data it may be estimated that between 1996 and 2012 the maturity gap increased significantly – average residual maturity of assets exceeds 6 years in 2012 (less than 2 years in 1996), while that of liabilities remains below 1 year. The gap...

A Simulation Model for Risk and Pricing Competition in the Retail Lending Market
PublicationWe propose a simulation model of the retail lending market with two types of agents: borrowers searching for low interest rates and lenders competing through risk-based pricing. We show that individual banks observe adverse selection, even if every lender applies the same pricing strategy and a credit scoring model of comparable discrimination power. Additionally, the model justifies the reverse-S shape of the response rate curve....

Scheduling of unit-length jobs with cubic incompatibility graphs on three uniform machines
PublicationWe consider the problem of scheduling n identical jobs on 3 uniform machines with speeds s1, s2, and s3 to minimize the schedule length. We assume that jobs are subject to some kind of mutual exclusion constraints, modeled by a cubic incompatibility graph. We how that if the graph is 2-chromatic then the problem can be solved in O(n^2) time. If the graph is 3-chromatic, the problem becomes NP-hard even if s1>s2=s3.
