FLOOD MANAGEMENT IN URBAN BASINS OF THE CITY OF GDAŃSK
PublicationOver the last years, the City of Gdańsk suffers twice from flash floods. Both events were caused by intense storms which produced significant surface runoff and caused inundation private and cities properties. The first case of July 2001 flood [3], [9] was the turning point for the city authorities, who decide to look close on the flood management in small urban catchments. The aim of research projects was to establish technical...

Application of chromogenic dye in biogenic amines determination using spectrophotometry
PublicationBiogenic amines content can be the source of information in the field of freshness and suitability of certain foods for consumption. However, most analytical methods for their determination require complicated sample preparation and expert knowledge. Because of that, a novel approach based on chromogenic dye application was proposed. After the SN1 reaction of an amine with S 0378 dye, the absorbance of the solution was measured...

Machine Learning and Electronic Noses for Medical Diagnostics
PublicationThe need for noninvasive, easy-to-use, and inexpensive methods for point-of-care diagnostics of a variety of ailments motivates researchers to develop methods for analyzing complex biological samples, in particular human breath, that could aid in screening and early diagnosis. There are hopes that electronic noses, that is, devices based on arrays of semiselective or nonselective chemical sensors, can fill this niche. Electronic...

Green, simple analytical method for total biogenic amines content determination in wine using spectrophotometry
PublicationA simple, green and equitable procedure for total biogenic amines (BAs) content determination was developed. The scientific novelty lies in the use of commercially available S 0378 dye, the reaction of which with BAs results in a colour change of the solution. Sample preparation and analysis were simplified to make the method suitable for routine analyses even in resource-scarce settings. The optimization of the method was carried...

The influence of moderate pressure and subzero temperature on the shelf life of minced cod, salmon, pork and beef meat
PublicationThe effect of moderate pressure at subzero temperature on natural microflora of minced cod, salmony, pork and beef meat was studied. Pressure of 193 MPa at –20 °C caused reduction of total bacterial count in pork and beef meat by 1.1 and 0.6 log cycles, respectively, and by about 1.5 log cycles in fish meat. Under these conditions the psychrophilic and psychrotophic bacteria were below the detection limit (<10CFU/g of sample) in...

W przypadku niektórych mikroorganizmów, głównie grzybów, wydłużenie komórki może prowadzić do mechanicznego rozerwania naprężonej ściany komórkowej i w efekcie do inaktywacji...

Wpływ połączonego działania wysokiego ciśnienia i innych czynników na mikroorganizmy
PublicationWysokie ciśnienie wzmaga bakteriobójcze działanie bakteriocyn i lizozymu w stosunku do różnych gramdodatnich i gramujemnych bakterii i odwrotnie, bakteriocyny powodują wzrost wrażliwości mikroorganizmów na działanie wysokiego ciśnienia. Do inaktywacji bakterii i grzybów oraz do zwiększania stopnia zniszczenia przetrwalników można stosować podwyższone ciśnienie w atmosferze dwutlenku węgla. Wzrost ciśnienia i temperatury zwiększa...

Effect of pH and high pressure at sub-zero temperature on the viability of some bacteria
