Zastosowanie metody PEM do oceny osiadania warstwy gruntu obciążonej cyklicznie
PublicationRozpatrzono warstwę niespoistego gruntu poddaną obciążeniu cyklicznemu. Osiadania warstwy wyznaczono modelem zagęszczania Sawickiego, który został uzupełniony opisem probabilistycznym uwzględniającym losowe parametry materiałowe oraz losowy charakter cyklicznego obciążenia. Efektywne rozwiązanie uzyskano wykorzystując metodę estymacji rozkładem dyskretnym (PEM). Rozpatrując różne kombinacje zmiennych losowych, w każdym z analizowanych...

Equitable and semi-equitable coloring of cubic graphs and its application in batch scheduling
PublicationIn the paper we consider the problems of equitable and semi-equitable coloring of vertices of cubic graphs. We show that in contrast to the equitable coloring, which is easy, the problem of semi-equitable coloring is NP- complete within a broad spectrum of graph parameters. This affects the complexity of batch scheduling of unit-length jobs with cubic incompatibility graph on three uniform processors to minimize...

Reliability assessment of truss towers using Monte Carlo Method, PEM and RSM
PublicationThe paper discusses the reliability assessment of simple random truss structures using three different probabilistic methodologies: the Monte Carlo method, the Point Estimate Method and the Response Surface Method. A benchmark truss structure example is analyzed. A set of numerical calculations of critical load is performed and the results are taken as the basis of advanced probabilistic calculations. Using the samples, numerical...

Surf Zone Currents in the Coastal Zone of the Southern Baltic Sea – a Modelling Approach
PublicationNearshore currents in a multi-bar non-tidal coastal zone environment located in the Southern Baltic Sea are studied. Spatiotemporal seaward-directed jets – so-called rip currents – are an important part of the nearshore current system. In previous research, Dudkowska et al. (2020) performed an extended modelling experiment to determine the wave conditions that are conducive to the emergence of rip currents. In this paper, the...

Trophic Transfer of Mercury in a Temperate Marine Food Web, Southern Baltic Sea
PublicationMercury (Hg) is considered to be one of the most dangerous global environmental pollutants. The toxicity and bioavailabilityof Hg depend on its chemical form, and the greatest hazard is posed by the organomercurial compounds. Hg is introduced into the human body primarily through the consumption of fish and seafood. Despite numerous studies on Hg in marine organisms, there is still a gap in the knowledge on Hg uptake and...

Effects of beach wrack on the fate of mercury at the land-sea interface – A preliminary study
PublicationSince the 1970s, the amount of aquatic plants and algae debris, called beach wrack (BW), has increased along the shores of industrialised regions. The strong ability of primary producers to accumulate pollutants can potentially result in their deposition on the beach along with the BW. Despite that, the fate and impact of such pollutants on sandy beach ecosystems have not been investigated so far. This study examines the fate...

Caffeine Inhibits Differentiation Of Lung Cancer Stem Cells By Modulating Their Respiratory Metabolism
PublicationIt is ell established that many tumor types contain a fraction of cells, with stem cell-like properties, called cancer stem cells (CSCs), that are resistant to apoptosis induced by therapeutic agents. The presence of CSCs may explain why a standard anticancer treatment, that eliminates only differentiated cancer cells, does not lead to cancer cure.We previously showed the existence of caffeine-sensitive mechanism that controls...

FEM analysis of composite materials failure in nonlinear six field shell theory
PublicationThe monography deals with the problem of failure initiation in thin laminated composites. Known techniques of laminate structures modelling are briefly characterised.
