Stationary underwater channel experiment: Acoustic measurements and characteristics in the Bornholm area for model validations
PublikacjaThe underwater acoustical channel is time-variant, and even on small time scales there is often existing no ‘acoustical frozen ocean’. Popular is the use of WSSUS-channel transmission modeling (Wide-Sense Stationary Uncorrelated Scattering) for the stochastic description of bandpass signals in GSM mobile phones with moving participants; since this results in a halved number of model parameters. For underwater sound applications...

PublikacjaWhen we started our Call for Papers for a Special Issue on “Machine Learning in Acoustics” in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, our ambition was to invite papers in which machine learning was applied to all acoustics areas. They were listed, but not limited to, as follows: • Music and synthesis analysis • Music sentiment analysis • Music perception • Intelligent music recognition • Musical source separation • Singing...

Impact of the glazed roof on acoustics of historic interiors
PublikacjaThe paper discusses the adverse acoustic phenomena occurring in the semi-open interiors (courtyards, yards) covered with a glass roof. Particularly negative is the rever-beration noise, which leads to the degradation of the utility functions of the resulting spaces. It involves the drastically reducing the intelligibility of speech, loss of natural sounding of music, problems with the sound system, as well as disturbances in the...

How Machine Learning Contributes to Solve Acoustical Problems
PublikacjaMachine learning is the process of learning functional relationships between measured signals (called percepts in the artificial intelligence literature) and some output of interest. In some cases, we wish to learn very specific relationships from signals such as identifying the language of a speaker (e.g. Zissman, 1996) which has direct applications such as in call center routing or performing a music information retrieval task...

Integrated acoustical-optical system for inventory of hydrotechnical objects
PublikacjaThe knowledge of the location, shape and other characteristics of spatial objects in the coastal areas has a significant impact on the functioning of ports, shipyards, and other waterinfrastructure facilities, both offshore and inland. Therefore, measurements of the underwater part of the waterside zone are taken, which means the bottom of the water and other underwater objects (e.g. breakwaters, docks, etc.), and objects above...

The estimation of fish lenght distribution from its acoustical measures
PublikacjaThe paper concerns the problem of estimating fish length PDF from its target strength PDF obtained from acoustic surveys. It has been shown that the target strength of single fish can be treated in the first approximation as a finction of two variables: one, which depends on fish size and the other, which depends on its angular orientation (aspect). Extending this simplified relationship to the case of fish populations allows to...

Acoustics-related aspects of historic interior modernization projects
PublikacjaThe paper presents three historic interiors in which modernization projects have been carried out having an important impact on their acoustic qualities. Two of the described case studies are positive examples of solving the problem of a natural contradictions between modern technical standards and strict discipline imposed by the heritage conservation system. On the other hand, the effect of neglecting the acoustic needs when...

Acoustics - new services for urban planning, research and education
PublikacjaThe main purpose of the presented design is twofold, namely: providing detailed information about the noise threats that occur every day in city areas and preventing the noise induced hearing loss especially among young people. An experimental system designed for the continuous monitoring of the acoustic climate of urban areas was developed and implemented within the PLGrid Plus project. The assessment of environmental threats...

Recent developments in automatic classification of musical instruments. W:[CD-ROM] Collected papers. First Pan-American/Iberian Meeting on Acoustics. 144 Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America. III Iberoamerican Cong- ress of Acoustics. 9o Mexican Congress of Acoustics. Cancun, Q. R. Mxico, 2-6 Dec. 2002. [B.m.:ASA]**2002 paper 2aMU4, 7 s. 6 rys. 1 tab. bibliogr. 21 poz. Automatyczne rozpoznawanie muzyki - przykłady eksperymentów.
PublikacjaW referacie dokonano przeglądu aktualnego stanu badań w dziedzinie automaty-cznego rozpoznawania muzyki. Przedstawiono też eksperymenty prowadzone aktu-alnie w Katedrze Dźwięku i Obrazu PG. Prace te dotyczyły rozpoznawania klasinstrumentów muzycznych i separacji duetów muzycznych. Pokazano przykładowewyniki i przedstawiono projekt prac do zrealizowania w przyszłych ekspery-mentach.

Processing of acoustical data in a multimodal bank operating room surveillance system
PublikacjaAn automatic surveillance system capable of detecting, classifying and localizing acoustic events in a bank operating room is presented. Algorithms for detection and classification of abnormal acoustic events, such as screams or gunshots are introduced. Two types of detectors are employed to detect impulsive sounds and vocal activity. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier is used to discern between the different classes of...

IMPACT OF CAUSTICS ON ACOUSTICS OF WHISPERING GROTTOES IN THE OLIWA PARK IN GDAŃSK
PublikacjaIn the paper, caustics are discussed as ordered forms of focus broadening occurring in concave mirrors. An example of caustics created by the reflection of the light from the concave mirror is shown. Against this background, the possibility to observe caustics in rooms is pointed out. Special emphasis is put on large rooms of historic character, as such interiors frequently include acoustic mirrors in the form of arched vaults...

Interaction of modes in nonlinear acoustics: theory and applications to pulse dynamics.

Analysis of a caustic formed by a spherical reflector: Impact of a caustic on architectural acoustics
PublikacjaFocusing sound in rooms intended for listening to music or speech is an acoustic defect. Design recommendations provide remedial steps to effectively prevent this. However, there is a category of objects of high historical or architectural value in which the sound focus correction is limited or even abandoned. This also applies to indoor or outdoor concert shells, installations for teaching and acoustic presentations, etc. The...
