The (over)touristification of European historic cities: a relation between urban heritage and short-term rental market demand
PublikacjaIn this chapter, I wish to highlight the critical relationship between heritage management issues and building environment transformation. I argue that such a relationship is directly expressed through the tourism phenomenon, and it should be measured through the economic dimension of the short-term rental market, which introduces this rule of thumb: if there is a lack of demand, the brand of the city is weak; if there is too much...

Analysis of radiometric signal in sedimentating suspension flow in open channel
PublikacjaThe article discusses issues related to the estimation of the sedimentating solid particles average flow velocity in an open channel using radiometric methods. Due to the composition of the compound, which formed water and diatomite, received data have a very weak signal to noise ratio. In the process analysis the known determining of the solid phase transportation time delay the classical cross-correlation function is the most...

Syntheses, spectroscopic and structural properties of phenoxysilyl compounds: X-ray structures, FT-IR and DFT calculations
PublikacjaThe reaction of silicon disulfide with alkylphenols leads to tetraphenoxysilane, cyclodisilthiane and silanethiol. The products of the reaction of silicon disulfide with phenols are characterized by FT-IR, NMR, X-ray diffraction and DFT calculations. The intramolecular interactions in the compounds are mainly XH---π (X = C, S) whereas the intermolecular interactions are either very weak CH---π/CH---O contacts found in aryloxysilane...

Straightened characteristics of McKendrick-von Foerster equation
PublikacjaWe study the McKendrick-von Foerster equation with renewal (that is the age-structured model, with total population dependent coefficient and nonlinearity). By using a change of variables, the model is then transformed to a standard age-structured model in which the total population dependent coefficient of the transport term reduces to a constant 1. We use this transformation to get existence, uniqueness of solutions of the problem...

Fast EM-driven size reduction of antenna structures by means of adjoint sensitivities and trust regions
PublikacjaIn this letter, a simple yet robust and computationally efficient optimization technique for explicit size reduction of antenna structures is presented. Our approach directly handles the antenna size as the main design objective, while ensuring satisfactory electrical performance by means of suitably defined penalty functions. For the sake of accuracy, the antenna structure is evaluated using high-fidelity EM simulation. In order...

Distribution of relaxation times as a method of separation and identification of complex processes measured by impedance spectroscopy
PublikacjaImpedance spectroscopy is one of the most commonly performed measurements to characterize electronic and electrochemical systems. Impedance spectra have limited resolution and many different processes may overlap what could be the reason of obstructions in its proper later analysis. Up to date, there are three approaches to solve this problem: examining impedance spectra itself, fitting spectra with equivalent circuits, and calculating...

Effect of presence of lifting pocket on the THD performance of a large tilting-pad thrust bearing
PublikacjaHydrostatic assistance is a commonly used method to improve limited load carrying ability of tiltingpad thrust bearings during transient states of operation of vertical shaft hydro-generators. Despite of special hydraulic equipment (as pumps, valves, etc.), it also requires manufacturing of special recesses/pockets at pad sliding surfaces, into which oil is injected under high pressure. It allows to lift the rotor before start-up...

Average Redundancy of the Shannon Code for Markov Sources
PublikacjaIt is known that for memoryless sources, the average and maximal redundancy of fixed–to–variable length codes, such as the Shannon and Huffman codes, exhibit two modes of behavior for long blocks. It either converges to a limit or it has an oscillatory pattern, depending on the irrationality or rationality, respectively, of certain parameters that depend on the source. In this paper, we extend these findings, concerning the Shannon...

Anomalous decay of quantum correlations of quantum-dot qubits
PublikacjaWe study the evolution of quantum correlations, quantified by the geometric discord, of two excitonic quantum-dot qubits under the influence of the phonon environment. We show that the decay of these correlations differs substantially from the decay of entanglement. Instead of displaying sudden-death-type behavior, the geometric discord shows a tendency to undergo transitions between different types of decay, is sensitive to nonlocal...

Quantitative Storytelling in the Making of a Composite Indicator
PublikacjaThe reasons for and against composite indicators are briefly reviewed, as well as the available theories for their construction. After noting the strong normative dimension of these measures—which ultimately aim to ‘tell a story’, e.g. to promote the social discovery of a particular phenomenon, we inquire whether a less partisan use of a composite indicator can be proposed by allowing more latitude in the framing of its construction....
