Analysis of the image force effects on the recombination at the donor-acceptor interface in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells
PublicationWe consider the influence of image force effects on the recombination at the donor-acceptor interface in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells. The conclusion is that the charge carriers of one sign located in the material with lower permittivity recombine at the boundary between donor and acceptor phases. This process competes with the recombination of opposite sign charge carriers, leading to the reduction of the Langevin-type...

Human Computer Interface for Tracking Eye Movements Improves Assessment and Diagnosis of Patients With Acquired Brain Injuries
PublicationOne of the first clinical signs differentiating the minimally conscious state from the vegetative state is the presence of smooth pursuit eye movements occurring in direct response to moving salient stimuli. Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is one of the most commonly used diagnostic tools for acute phase assessment of the level of consciousness, together with a neurological examination. These classic measures are limited to qualitative...

Application of the discrete Green's function-based antenna simulations for excitation of the total-field/scattered-field interface in the FDTD method
PublicationIn this article, the discrete Green's function formulation of the finite-difference time-domain (DGF-FDTD) method is proposed for simulation of wire antennas irradiating inhomogeneous dielectric scatterers. Surface equivalence theorem in the discrete domain is used to separate the problem into an inhomogeneous domain and a wire antenna that are simulated with the use of FDTD and DGF-FDTD, respectively. Then, the excitation of the...

Compatibility of Crude Oil Blends─Processing Issues Related to Asphaltene Precipitation, Methods of Instability Prediction─A Review
PublicationProcessing crude oil of variable composition, especially due to the need to process crude oil blends obtained from various sources, presents a tremendous process challenge. This is mainly due to the destabilization of the colloidal system manifested mostly by the precipitation of the asphaltene fraction. The precipitation of asphaltenes from crude oil is a serious problem during extraction, transport, and processing. In the latter...

Effects of beach wrack on the fate of mercury at the land-sea interface – A preliminary study
PublicationSince the 1970s, the amount of aquatic plants and algae debris, called beach wrack (BW), has increased along the shores of industrialised regions. The strong ability of primary producers to accumulate pollutants can potentially result in their deposition on the beach along with the BW. Despite that, the fate and impact of such pollutants on sandy beach ecosystems have not been investigated so far. This study examines the fate...
