Relativity of arithmetic as a fundamental symmetry of physics
PublicationArithmetic operations can be defined in various ways, even if one assumes commutativity and associativity of addition and multiplication, and distributivity of multiplication with respect to addition. In consequence, whenever one encounters ‘plus’ or ‘times’ one has certain freedom of interpreting this operation. This leads to some freedom in definitions of derivatives, integrals and, thus, practically all equations occurring in...

If Gravity is Geometry, is Dark Energy just Arithmetic?
PublicationArithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), as well as the calculus they imply, are non-unique. The examples of four-dimensional spaces, R^4 and (−L/2,L/2)^4, are considered where different types of arithmetic and calculus coexist simultaneously. In all the examples there exists a non-Diophantine arithmetic that makes the space globally Minkowskian, and thus the laws of physics are formulated in terms...

As an illustration, we perform a Fourier transform of a real-valued...

Fourier transforms on Cantor sets: A study in non-Diophantine arithmetic and calculus
PublicationFractals equipped with intrinsic arithmetic lead to a natural definition of differentiation, integration, and complex structure. Applying the formalism to the problem of a Fourier transform on fractals we show that the resulting transform has all the required basic properties. As an example we discuss a sawtooth signal on the ternary middle-third Cantor set. The formalism works also for fractals that are not self-similar.

The effect of improved cutting conditions of the circular saw blade on precision of cutting
PublicationW pracy przedstawiono analizę i wyniki badań doświadczalnych dokładności przecinania na dwuwrzecionowej pilarce tarczowej. W warunkach przemysłowych badano piły starej (typ "Multix") i nowej konstrukcji podczas przecinania pryzm ze zmrożonego drewna brzozowego. Ponadto, określono wpływ kinematyki układu przecinania na uzyskiwaną dokładność przecinania.

Practical Eco-Driving Strategy for Suburban Electric Multiple Unit
PublicationIn this paper, a practical approach to velocity profile optimization for electric multiple unit was presented. The study focuses on a case of fast urban railway, which is a popular mean of transport across Tricity, Poland. Based on observations and measurements, a potential for improvement of energy efficiency by modifying the speed profile was recognized. In order to conduct necessary calculations, simulation model of railway...

Generation of large finite-element matrices on multiple graphics processors
PublicationThis paper presents techniques for generating very large finite-element matrices on a multicore workstation equipped with several graphics processing units (GPUs). To overcome the low memory size limitation of the GPUs, and at the same time to accelerate the generation process, we propose to generate the large sparse linear systems arising in finite-element analysis in an iterative manner on several GPUs and to use the graphics...

KOLMOGOROV EQUATION SOLUTION: MULTIPLE SCATTERING EXPANSION AND PHOTON STATISTICS EVOLUTION MODELING
PublicationWe consider a formulation of the Cauchy problem for the Kolmogorov equation which corresponds to a localized source of particles to be scattered by a medium with a given scattering amplitude density. The multiple scattering amplitudes are introduced and the corresponding series solution of the equation is constructed. We investigate the integral representation for the first series terms, its estimations and values of the photon...

Stereo Camera Upgraded to Equal Baseline Multiple Camera Set (EBMCS)
PublicationThe paper presents the results of using a set of five cameras called Equal Baseline Multiple Camera Set (EBMCS) for making 3D images, disparity maps and depth maps. Cameras in the set are located in the vicinity of each other and therefore the set can be used for the purpose of stereoscopy similarly as a stereo camera.EBMCS provides disparity maps and depth maps which have a better quality than these maps obtained with the use...
