Comparison of numerical models of impact force for simulation of earthquake-induced structural pounding
PublicationW artykule przedstawiono porównanie trzech modeli numerycznych służących do symulacji siły zderzenia w czasie kontaktu pomiędzy konstrukcjami budowlanymi podczas trzęsień ziemi. Efektywność każdego z modeli zbadano porównując wyniki analiz numerycznych z wynikami badań eksperymentalnych. Wyniki pracy pokazują, iż nieliniowy model lepkosprężysty najdokładniej symuluje przebieg czasowy siły zderzenia w czasie kontaktu.

Dataset Characteristics and Their Impact on Offline Policy Learning of Contextual Multi-Armed Bandits
PublicationThe Contextual Multi-Armed Bandits (CMAB) framework is pivotal for learning to make decisions. However, due to challenges in deploying online algorithms, there is a shift towards offline policy learning, which relies on pre-existing datasets. This study examines the relationship between the quality of these datasets and the performance of offline policy learning algorithms, specifically, Neural Greedy and NeuraLCB. Our results...

Impact of Boundary Conditions on Acoustic Excitation of EntropyPerturbations in a Bounded Volume of Newtonian Gas
PublicationExcitation of the entropy mode in the field of intense sound, that is, acoustic heating, is theoreticallyconsidered in this work. The dynamic equation for an excess density which specifies the entropy mode, has been obtained by means of the method of projections. It takes the form of the diffusion equation withan acoustic driving force which is quadratically nonlinear in the leading order. The diffusion coefficient isproportional...

Negative impact of constant RPM control strategy on ship NOx emission in waves
PublicationIn severe wave conditions, the ship propulsion system is loaded with high fluctuations due to external disturbances. The highly fluctuating loads enforce radical changes in the main engine torque, which in turn demands variation of the fuel rate injected into the cylinders if a constant rotational speed strategy is applied. Therefore, the temperature of gases varies to a large extent during the combustion process in the cylinders....

Impact of Temperature and Nanoparticle Concentration on Turbulent Forced Convective Heat Transfer of Nanofluids
PublicationTheoretical analysis of the influence of nanoparticles and temperature on the average Nusselt (Nu) number and the average heat transfer coefficient (HTC) during the turbulent flow of nanofluid in a horizontal, round tube was carried out. The Nu number is a function of the Reynolds (Re) number and the Prandtl (Pr) number, which in turn are functions of the thermophysical properties of the liquid and the flow conditions. On the other...

Impact of temperature on optical sensing in biology based on investigation of SARS‐CoV ‐2
PublicationIn this paper, we present an investigation of the influence of the temperature on the sensing of biological samples. We used biofunctionalized microsphere-based fiber-optic sensor to detect immunoglobulin G attached to the sensor head at temperatures relevant in biological research: 5°C, 25°C, and 55°C. The construction of the sensor allowed us to perform measurements in the small amount of solution. The results of our experiment...

Examining the Impact of Distance Between VSL Road Signs on Vehicle Speed Variance
PublicationVariable speed limit (VSL) is an intelligent transportation system (ITS) solution for traffic management. The speed limits can be changed dynamically to adapt to traffic conditions such as visibility and traffic volume, curvature, and grip coefficient of the road surface. The VSL traffic sign location problem and attempts to solve it using computer simulation are presented in this paper. Experiments on a selected road segment,...

ANALYZING TITLES OF ECONOMY NEWS TO UNDERSTAND IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON ECONOMICAL SITUATION
PublicationCovid-19 affected the whole world in a short time, causing serious panic and uncertainty in society. Because it was an unprecedented disease, the medical community has worked hard to find out how to deal with it, and it continues to do so. The rapid spread of the disease, the shortage of hospital capacity and the increase in deaths drove the whole world to a closure, so to speak. In this time period, life in the world came to a...

Impact of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) on low-temperature properties of asphalt concrete
PublicationHot mix recycling is a practice which enables reusing materials from old asphalt pavements. Current Polish regulations allow usage of RAP only for binder and base courses, and its amount is limited. Asphalt mixtures with RAP material have to fulfil requirements stated for typical asphalt mixtures. The research presents low-temperature properties of twelve different asphalt concretes with RAP material, determined using three-point...

One of the simplest and the least harmful methods is conversion of tires into ground tire rubber (GTR), which can be introduced into different polymer matrices as a filler. However, these applications often require proper modifications to provide compatibility with the polymer matrix. In this study, we examined the impact...
