Application of ionic liquids in electronic nose instruments
PublicationAmong many applications in different fields of science and technology the ionic liquids (ILs) are also utilised in chemical sensors yielding improvement of their operation parameters (Buzzeo, 2004; Wei and Ivaska, 2008; Silvester, 2011; Gebicki et al., 2013). Some of these chemical sensors are the components of the devices, which resemble human sense of smell as far as their operation is concerned. These devices are named electronic...

Mineral and Organic Matter Constituents in Weak Interfaces in Shales
PublicationThis paper identifies formation interfaces that would appear to be "weak interfaces", in the Jurassic, Early- Cretaceous Vaca Muerta formation, in the Neuquén Basin, Argentina. Significant distribution of the weak interfaces was observed including contacts between volcanic ash layers of varying thicknesses, calcite-filled veins, and contacts between lithology changes, such as between argillaceous mudstone and mottled carbonates....

The role of traditional architectural models in the first stages of education.
PublicationThe oldest architectural models discovered by scientists date from the Middle Ages, while models or 1:1 scale prototypes were used in ancient times. Architectural miniatures quickly evolved into an indispensable tool for designers that enabled them to creatively express their thoughts and ideas. Mock-ups became a way of helping a designer communicate a concept, and their educational value was also recognised. The method of modelling,...

Plasma-Based Deposition and Processing Techniques for Optical Fiber Sensing
PublicationPlasma-based techniques are widely applied for well-controlled deposition, etching or surface functionalization of a number of materials. It is difficult to imagine fabrication of novel microelectronic and optoelectronic devices without using plasma-enhanced deposition of thin films, their selective etching or functionalization of their surfaces for subsequent selective binding of chemical or biological molecules. City scan as a tool to assess resilience challenges and vulnerabilities at the community level
PublicationThe majority of the world’s population lives in cities and cities are the key to achieving resilience. Local governments own only part of the land and can only partially decide about measures that should be taken ‘on the ground’. Local governments are therefore highly dependent on individuals, communities, and businesses to adapt and transform and take action in their own backyards or neighbourhoods. Since, for many people, climate...
