An application for a new type of pneumatic engine concept
PublicationHeavy trucks are often equipped with loading and unloading systems like dock levellers with swing lip or telescopic lip. Most of these devices require hydro-electrical energy supply systems (eg. the pump that presses the working substance to the actuators must be propelled by electric engine.) The space taken by pump with electric engine can be reduced on condition that a new type of pneumatic drive will be considered. It is possible...

Wpływ strat mechanicznych w siłowniku teleskopowym zespołu zagęszczającego w pojeździe do usuwania odpadów z pojemników na skuteczność prasowania odpadów
PublicationHydraulic telescopic cylinders are used to power the moving wall of rear loader garbage trucks equipped with the traditional "sweep and slide" system. As the garbage compression force is directly dependent on the resistance force of the moving wall, losses in the hydraulic telescopic cylinder influence the compaction process. Taking them into account in the control system may improve the operation of the compaction...

Simulations of Shear Zones and Cracks in Engineering Materials Using eXtended Finite Element Method
PublicationNumerical simulations of cracks and shear zones in quasi-brittle materials are presented. Extended Finite Element Method is used to describe both cracks and shear zones. In a description of tensile cracks, a Rankine criterion is assumed. A discrete Mohr-Coulomb law is adopted for simulations of shear zones. Results of simple numerical tests: unixial tension, bending and biaxial compression are demonstrated.

Experimental observations on the creep behaviour of frozen soil
PublicationConstitutive models in the literature for creep of frozen soil are based on the direct use of time counted from the onset of creep. An explicit time dependence in a constitutive equation violates the principles of rational mechanics. No change in stress or temperature is allowed for during creep, using the time-based formulations. Moreover, the existing descriptions need much verification and improvement on the experimental side...
