PublikacjaStudy of the sea noise has been a subject of interest for years. The first work of this scope were published at the turn of the twentieth century by Knudsen (KNUDSEN et al., 1948) and G. Wenz (WENZ, 1962). Disturbances called "shipping noise" are one of the important components of the sea noise. In this work the results of an experimental research of underwater noise produced by a small ship of a classic propulsion are...

Implementation of TVDI calculation for coastal zone
PublikacjaPaper will show an implementation of TVDI (Temperature-Vegetation-Dryness Index) algorithm on GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). Calculation of this index is based on LST (Land Surface Temperature) and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index). Discussed results are based on multi-spectral imagery retrieved from AVHRR3 sensors for area of Poland, especially from region of Gdańsk coastal zone. All phases of TVDI implementation...

A Numerical Model Study on Ice Boom in a Coastal Lake
PublikacjaA numerical study on the effectiveness of the proposed ice boom to be installed near the entrance of Lake Notoro, Hokkaido, Japan to prevent sea ice moving into the lake is presented. A two-dimensional hydro–ice dynamics model was modified to allow for the treatment of ice-boom interaction with the effect of tidal current. The numerical model is a coupled hydrodynamic and ice dynamic model. The ice dynamic component uses a Lagrangian...

Treated wasetewater as a source of humic substances in surface waters
PublikacjaHumic substances impose substantial effect on the aquatic environment as well as the water organisms and human health. Among other features, the humic acids determine organoleptic properties of surface waters. Therefore explanation of the origin and properties of humic acids in surface waters is one of the priorities of water technology.Recently it was pointed out that in the wastewater treatment process organic compounds characterized...

Some aspects of noise generated by a small ship in the shallow sea
PublikacjaThe passing and underwater moving objects produce the noises of variable intensity, which significantly increase the overall level of noise in the sea. This applies to both the sonic and ultrasonic range. The excessive levels of underwater noise adversely affects the so-called underwater acoustic climate and is the reason why this phenomenon is intensively investigated from the number of years. The results of experimental work...

Analysis of hydrodynamic pressure fields of motorboats and pontoons in shallow water
PublikacjaThe article presents the results of calculations of the pressure fields generated by a motorboat at the bottom of a shallow sea. Calculations were made using the boundary elements method (BEM), arranged on the surface of the boat and the bottom of the sea. This method is described in [3], and applied on a free surface linearized boundary condition. Results for four different lengths of motorboats, from 2.85 m to 9.5 m, sea depth...

Coastal Cliffs Monitoring and Prediction of Displacements Using Terrestial Laser Scanning
PublikacjaCoastal cliffs are very sensitive to degradation caused by erosion and abrasion. Thus, it is very important to monitor susceptibility of the cliffs in terms of slope angles and ground fall resulting from vertical morphology of the cliffs. The results could be used for example to establish the boundaries of the safe investments zone or retreat infrastructure buildings in case of real threat such as degradation of the objects of...

Chemometric Evaluation of WWTPs’ Wastewaters and Receiving Surface Waters in Bulgaria
PublikacjaWastewater treatment plant (WWTP) installations are designed and operated to reduce the quantity of pollutants emitted to surface waters receiving treated wastewaters. In this work, we used classical instrumental studies (to determine chemicals and parameters under obligations put with Directive 91/271/EEC), ecotoxicological tools (Sinapis alba root growth inhibition (SA-RG) and Heterocypris incongruens mortality (MORT) and growth...

Signal conditioning for examination of shallow-water acoustic noise correlation properties
PublikacjaThe article describes the process of signal conditioning for examination of acoustic noise correlation properties in shallow water. Knowledge of these properties is very important for the design processes of passive and active hydroacoustic systems. This paper focuses on the above issue from the point of view of passive sonar. In sonar systems, signal processing algorithms operate on both useful acoustic signals, and accompanying...

A new approach of coastal cliff monitoring using Mobile Laser Scanning
PublikacjaThe article proposes a new approach of coastal cliff monitoring which bases on a new comprehensive monitoring system, being a combination of mobile scanning from the sea with the geotechnical stability analysis. Mobile laser scanning is an innovative solution for 3D data collection which allows the monitored object geometry to be precisely measured, thus providing opportunities for series of analyses contributing to the development...

The Sea And The Beach As Composition Elements Of The Coastal Gardens In West Prussia In The 19th Century
PublikacjaThe melancholic and changeable character of the Baltic Sea has often been used in the painting of the romantic period. The sea and its beaches were also an important composition element as well as a supplement of Baltic coastal gardens which were founded in West Prussia in the 19th century. Gardens set up on the coast used various moods of nature, as well as extensive and beautiful sea landscapes, often leading to nostalgia. The...

Coastal zone monitoring using Sentinel-1 SAR polarymetry data
PublikacjaIn recent years the role of the surveillance and security of Polish boundaries has significantly increased. Polish coastal zone monitoring requires various approaches using various technological means in order to ensure the protection of Polish boundaries. In this paper, the authors discuss and present alternatives to underwater surveillance methods of coastal area analysis and monitoring using data retrieved from the newly developed...

Atmospheric deposition of microplastics in the coastal zone: Characteristics and relationship with meteorological factors
PublikacjaThe quantitative and qualitative compositions of microplastics (MPs) deposited from the atmosphere in the coastal zone were analysed. Moreover, links between MP deposition and meteorological factors (air humidity, wind speed, precipitation height, and air mass trajectories) were investigated

Concept of an Innovative Autonomous Unmanned System for Bathymetric Monitoring of Shallow Waterbodies (INNOBAT System)
PublikacjaBathymetry is a subset of hydrography, aimed at measuring the depth of waterbodies and waterways. Measurements are taken inter alia to detect natural obstacles or other navigational obstacles that endanger the safety of navigation, to examine the navigability conditions, anchorages, waterways and other commercial waterbodies, and to determine the parameters of the safe depth of waterbodies in the vicinity of ports, etc. Therefore,...

Measurement of Impulse Response of Shallow Water Communication Channel by Correlation Method
PublikacjaPerformances of underwater acoustic communication (UAC) systems are strongly related to specific propagation conditions of the underwater channel; conditions that can additionally change in time due to the movement of the acoustic system transmitter and receiver or to reflection by underwater objects of the transmitted signal. The time-varying impulse response is a comprehensive description of dynamically changing transmission...

Recent Advances in Nanocomposite Membranes for Organic Compound Remediation from Potable Waters
PublikacjaWater treatment is one of the main approaches for producing drinking water from contaminated water sources which is challenging due to the presence of a variety of substances requiring removal. The fabrication of nanocomposite membranes relies either on filling nanomaterials into polymeric phases before membrane fabrication, or coating of nanomaterials on the fabricated membrane surface. The removal of organic compounds from potable...
