Positive solutions to Sturm–Liouville problems with non-local boundary conditions
PublicationIn this paper, the existence of at least three non-negative solutions to non-local boundary-value problems for second-order differential equations with deviating arguments α and ζ is investigated. Sufficient conditions, which guarantee the existence of positive solutions, are obtained using the Avery–Peterson theorem. We discuss our problem for both advanced and delayed arguments. An example is added to illustrate the results.

Flood Routing by the Non-Linear Muskingum Model: Conservation of Mass and Momentum
PublicationIn this paper, the conservative properties of the Muskingum equation, commonly applied to solve river flood routing, are analysed. The aim of this analysis is to explain the causes ofthe mass balance error, which is observed in the numerical solutions of its non-linear form. The linear Muskingum model has been considered as a semi-discrete form of the kinematic wave equation and therefore it was possible to derive its two non-linear...

Prevention of resonance oscillations in gear mechanisms using non-circular gears
PublicationOne of the main disadvantages of gear mechanisms is the occurrence of noise and vibrations. This study investigated the applicability of non-circular gears for preventing resonance oscillations in gear mechanisms. The influence of a small deviation of the gear centrodes from the nominal circles on kinematic and oscillatory characteristics was analysed. It was shown that a larger deviation results in a smaller resonance amplitude...

Load path sensitivity and multiaxial fatigue life prediction of metals under non-proportional loadings
PublicationEngineering components often operate under complex loadings, in which the variable amplitude multiaxial stresses are raised by geometric discontinuities including holes, grooves, fillets and shoulders, etc. Besides, the non-proportional loading will lead to the rotation of maximum principal stress/strain and additional fatigue damage of structural elements in service. Consequently, the multiaxial and non-proportional loading have...

Local variance factors in deformation analysis of non-homogenous monitoring networks
PublicationThis paper proposes a modification of the classical deformation analysis algorithm for non-homogeneous (e.g. linear-angular) monitoring networks. The basis for the proposed solution is the idea of local variance factors. The theoretical discussion was complemented with an example of its application on a simulated horizontal monitoring network. The obtained results confirm the usefulness of the proposed solution.

This problem has been extensively studied in classical computer science and has vivid importance to modern and future applications. Quantum non-locality, like Bell inequality violation, has shown that in many...
